Gandini Returns for NBL1

The Willetton Tigers NBL1 West season took another positive step forward with experienced point guard Emma Gandini signing on for the 2021 NBL1 West season.

Gandini who has been a mainstay of the Tigers team in recent years is a tough guard who can defend multiple positions and last season she averaged 3.3 steals a game which highlights her strong work ethic and importance to the Tigers team.

When asked about her re-commitment to the Willetton Tigers, Gandini had the following to say about next season.

“Re-signing with Willetton was an easy decision for me and I am really excited to be returning back to the club for the 2021 season. 2020 was a pretty crazy year but we were lucky enough to still be able to play in a modified season with most of the girls who will be playing in 2021 which is always an advantage. Willetton has always been a great club to be a part of and the girls and coaching staff we have on board just make it a no brainer to want to come back too.”

When asked about the new NBL1 West season Gandini added “It’s an exciting time for WA basketball with the SBL turning into NBL1. I’m really excited to be a part of it and looking forward to the exposure WA will receive. I think the competition will be able to grow through this move and draw more players to the league, strengthening what we already have here.”

Willetton Tigers Head Coach Simon Parker is buoyed by Gandini’s re-signing and made the following comments on securing his point guard for next season.

“We are very pleased to have re-signed Emma for the inaugural NBL1 West competition for 2021. Emma is a valued senior player in our team and a part of our leadership group and she is a person our young players aspire to be like by the way she works on the court.”

“Emma is arguably one of the best defenders in the league and lead the league in steals in 2019 and this is something we are looking for her to repeat in the NBL1 along with contributions in other areas of her game.”
