Good Sports Award - 2018

Congratulations to Ajit Sandhu, president of Roadies Club - for a well deserved nomination for this year's Good Sports Award.

The Good Sports Award is a publicly nominated award for someone who is seen as “a good sport” – a volunteer or official who goes the extra mile and exemplifies the spirit of being a “good sport”.  Ajit received a number of nominations.  A summary of the testimonials:  “Ajit works tirelessly as President of the Roadies club but also as an advocate for the Willetton Basketball Association, promoting everything positive in regards to the game.

He has been instrumental in building the club up, with Roadies having more teams than ever before – and the number is still rising. His passionate commitment to Roadies sees that he coaches two domestic teams but also team manages, plus he also finds the time to play socially.”  “He is approachable and makes time to solve any issues day or night in a professional manner.” Numerous people have mentioned his loyalty and commitment to Willetton, but also that he acts as a role model kids, encouraging respectful interaction with referees and other teams while making the games competitive but also fun.

Special mention goes to two Willetton domestic coaches:

1.            Tristan Overmars - Coach Puma 023: “Tristan has built a team that are not only successful but love to play the game. He has shown them how to work as a team but also be respectful to others that play. He has never played or coached before but has an outstanding 3 Grand Final wins under his belt.”

2.            Milos Zdravic - Coach Bullets u8’s; “Milos takes time off work on Monday afternoons to train the boys and if he has to miss a game, he’s on the phone straight away to find out how the team has gone.  While he acknowledges that some of the team members need more “attention”, all team members feel equal. At the end of the season, Milos awards each team member with a special note identifying how they have improved.”
