Cameron Teece inspired Sorrento to a 5-1 defeat of Perth Glory as the Gulls bolstered their chances of a top-six finish with victory in the Regional Festival of Football clash in Albany.

After taking some heavy punishment at the hands of Glory in the two previous Regional Cup games in Kalgoorlie and Busselton, this time it was Sorrento dishing it out.

And the main architect was Teece, the NPLWA Men’s top scorer with 11 goals. He struck twice at Centennial Stadium, set up another couple and was a constant pain for the Glory backline.

Sorrento head coach Jamie Harnwell said: "We took our chances well and were ruthless.

"In the course of the week we set ourselves a target of nine points (from three games) and we got seven. It's good for us and we have to make sure we're in the top six and finish as high up as we can."

Sorrento started like they had a point to prove and Teece almost netted when he latched on to Clark Keltie’s pass and lobbed Glory keeper Sam Reilly, but the ball went just over.

The Sorrento striker then broke down the right and crossed for Jakub Prajza to force the ball past Reilly for the opener.

The setback triggered a response from Glory and they were level not long after, Alessandro Circati allowed a free header from Giordano Colli's corner.

Glory then enjoyed their best spell and Charlie Leech hit the post from six yards when he probably should have scored.

That proved costly and Sorrento regained the advantage with a goal not dissimilar to Glory’s. Ollie Annis swung over a corner and skipper Shaun Kilkelly came round the back to score with a diving header.

It was from another corner that Glory almost equalised again. A deep centre was retrieved by Jack Painter-Andrews and he found Mason Tatafu who, with the goal at his mercy, shot against the outside of the post.

With the score 2-1 at the interval, the game was in the balance. But then Teece took over by scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the half.

His first was a real poacher’s goal, following up after Reilly could only parry Keltie’s curler. His second was simply class. A ball over the top led to a race between Teece and Tatafu. There was nothing in it but Teece outmuscled the Glory defender before nonchalantly finishing past Reilly with the outside of his right foot.

Glory were then reduced to 10 men when Painter-Andrews picked up a second yellow card and things could have got really ugly but for Reilly, who prevented Teece from claiming his third hat-trick of the season before spectacularly pushing Amir Ajan’s effort on to the crossbar.

Instead it was another substitute, Zdenek Bezdek, who got the fifth. He ran on to Teece’s pass down the line then slipped the ball under Reilly as Sorrento moved to third on the table.

Floreat Athena are back on top of the NPLWA Men’s table following a 1-0 home win over Cockburn City.

The only goal came from Liam Murray, who scored for the second straight game when he tucked away Phil Arnold’s square ball on 10 minutes.

The result takes Athena two points clear of Gwelup Croatia and they have all but secured a top-six spot when the league splits in three games’ time.

Gwelup Croatia relinquished top spot as they were held 1-1 by second-bottom Perth SC.

Daniel Stynes volleyed the opener in the first half after Perth struggled to deal with Hasani Sinclair’s flick-on.

But Michael Domfeh made enough of a nuisance of himself to create confusion in the Gwelup defence before equalising seven minutes after the interval.

Gwelup were reduced to 10 men on 58 minutes when Sean McManus received a straight red card after seeming to swing an arm.

Armadale’s recent good run came to an end as they suffered a second-half collapse against Inglewood United at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

And it was old boy Chris Jackson who did the damage with two goals in Inglewood’s 4-1 win.

Jordan Allen-Rana outpaced two Armadale defenders to put United in front but Armadale had levelled by the break. Roberto De Freitas Soares nipped in front of Alex Dunn before having his legs taken by the Inglewood keeper to earn his side a penalty, and the Armadale striker converted.

However, two goals in 11 second-half minutes from Jackson dictated the course of this game.

The Englishman restored Inglewood’s lead after getting to Anthony Bafobusha's return pass and knocking the ball past keeper Cyril Sharrock before scoring. Then he turned his marker and ran through to fire beyond Sharrock and leave the hosts up against it.

Substitute Brendan Italiano got Inglewood fourth near the end with a low drive across Sharrock.

Balcatta let slip a two-goal lead for the third successive match as Bayswater City pulled a point out of the fire at Frank Drago Reserve.

Balcatta have also surrendered a three-goal lead this season, a self-destructive habit which is undermining any ambitions they have of a place in the top six.

They looked set for only their second win of the campaign when, eight minutes from the end, skipper John Kearney caught out Bayswater keeper Patrick Stephenson with an outrageous free-kick taken just two yards inside the City half.

It was an incredible piece of vision and one which followed Adam Zimarino’s first-half opener to again put Balcatta in the driving seat. Unfortunately for Bobby Taneski’s side, that is when they have a tendency to crash.

The doubts would have returned when Daryl Nicol pulled one back two minutes from time with a low shot from 20 yards out.

And deep in stoppage time Balcatta’s worst fears came true when Nicol reacted first to steer home his second and leave the visitors crestfallen.

Callum Timmins was the main man as ECU Joondalup got back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory at Rockingham City.

Timmins teed up Ethan Brooks for a well-taken opener, and by half-time the Jacks were 2-0 in front as Timmins shot past Bradley Stout after Danny Hodgson had forced Ryan Kennedy into a mistake.

Timmins was then involved in ECU’s third two minutes into the second half, his run leading to Tommy Amphlett’s goal.

Timmins was at the heart of almost everything and he was only denied his second by the post.

ECU’s fourth came five minutes from time with Ben Hinshelwood sidefooting home.
