Gungahlin United Further Strengthens Stocks

Already a force to be reckoned with this NPLW season, Gungahlin United FC has secured the signing of Westfield W-League top scorer Michelle Heyman on the eve of their top of the table clash with Belconnen United FC.

“We’re really excited to welcome Michelle to the club,” Gungahlin goalkeeper Kailey Tonini said.

“She’s certainly accomplished and experienced and I think she will really compliment the talent we already have in the squad.

“We’re already contenders so having Michelle on board is great for the team.

“It certainly adds a highly clinical element to the forward pack and that’s something we’ve been trying to really improve the past few weeks and seasons but she’s got records behind her so she’ll be great for us up front.”

Missing out on Canberra United’s semi final clash against Sydney FC in the 2020/21 Westfield W-League season, the striker is still recovering from the minor quad injury sustained in training.

“She’s still coming back from injury, she’s a couple of weeks away but we’ll be welcoming her to the squad shortly,” Tonini said.

Gungahlin is full of offensive power with 11 goals this season, while up back, they’ve only conceded one.

“It is good to have the wins behind us but Belconnen are meeting us with the same achievements. Gungahlin and Belconnen is a fantastic match up so we’re really looking forward to it,” the goalkeeper said.

“We’re going to have to be really solid in the middle, keep the ball and really no mucking around up the back.

“It’s going to be quick and easy transitions because Belconnen are fantastic in their pressure.

“It’ll be about holding out a very attacking side but it’s a team effort at the end of the day and if we can keep possession, and be effective in how we use it, then that’s how we win it.”

Gungahlin United FC hosts Belconnen United FC on Sunday May 2nd from 3pm at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval.
