Round five went off without a hitch in the FQPL and plenty of action meant plenty of movement across the table after the weekend’s play. Catch up with the results below!

Mitchelton FC | 2 – 1 | Wolves FC

First Victory for Mitchelton FC

Mitchelton FC made their long awaited return to the field after a BYE in round three and a rained out round four had them on a three week hiatus from the FQPL. A 37^th minute penalty converted by Jordan Dozzi had Mitchelton FC up 1-0 going into halftime. It was a tough contest, with Wolves finally equalising through a penalty in the 78^th minute.

Kai Barnes bagged an injury time winner to seal the points for Mitchelton, and snatch their first victory of the season in dramatic fashion. The points remain elusive for the Wolves who look to turn their season around starting with Eastern Suburbs in round six.

 

Peninsula Power | 6 – 1 | Southside Eagles

Peninsula power through The Eagles

Peninsula Power have continued their unbeaten run through the FQPL after another dominant display, this time over Southside Eagles. Despite The Eagles shot stopper making an incredible save to deny Power’s Richard Hurlin from the spot, the away side struggled to gain a foothold on the match. Thomas Strickland’s first half brace, along with Oliver Smith bagging his first of the FQPL had The Power comfortably ahead at halftime.

The visitors didn’t fare much better in the second half. Dean Briggs kicked things off in the 58^th minute firing home an absolute screamer. Sam Cronin and Michael Ryan also took one each within two minutes of each other. The Eagles snatched a consolation prize in the 82^nd minute through Jordan Maxwell but were ultimately played off the park.

Valiant Hawks come-back victory

A blistering opening twenty minutes for the home side had the Hawks on the ropes early. Lightning opened the account after seven minutes through Jamie Vesey, and then doubled the lead thirteen minutes later courtesy of George Barbarouses. The visitors were determined not to give up, and their Captain, Marek Madle, rallied the troops after managing a first half brace to bring them right back into the contest.

The Hawks were the first to strike after half-time, almost immediately through a brilliant free-kick from Jack Webb. It was the first time that the Hawks managed to be in front, and they held out for the remainder of the match to claim an important three points away from home and climb to second spot on the FQPL table.

 

Capalaba Bulldogs | 7 - 1 | Wide Bay Buccaneers

Bulldogs add to Buccaneers woes

Capalaba have made it three wins in four matches thus far in the FQPL after another impressive victory over the Buccaneers. A Stuart Edgar double and a Jordan Burgess goal had the home side 3 – 0 up within the first 11 minutes, and a sign of a long night ahead for the travellers. Capalaba maintained dominance in all aspects of the match, and Liam Klein made it four in the 35^th minute. Bradley Mitchell managed to pull one back for Wide Bay right before half-time to somewhat keep hopes alive.

Ryo Ono bagged a fifth for Capalaba in the 66^th minute, either side of a disallowed goal for each team having been ruled offside. Ono had his brace soon after in the 82^nd minute before Edgar finished off for his hat-trick leaving Wide Bay to rethink their approach on the long drive home, having now conceded 16 in just three matches.

 

Souths United | 6 – 0 | Ipswich Knights

Souths drop six on the Knights

Souths United picked up an important home win, their first victory since round one. Only two weeks ago it was The Knights hitting the Buccaneers for six but this time they found themselves on the end of the hiding. Souths scored after 16 minutes gone however the Knights steadied themselves and stayed in the match, as the score remained 1 – 0 until half-time.

Souths rose to another level throughout the second half, controlling possession through the middle and dominating in the attacking third. With ten minutes to play the home side snuffed out any chance of a comeback, putting an additional three into the back of the net. Ipswich need to find some consistency when they host the high flying Bulldogs in round six. Souths have the BYE before they too will take on Capalaba in round seven.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers | 3 – 0 | Rochedale Rovers

Wanderers remain unbeaten

FQPL new boys Sunshine Coast Wanderers are quickly establishing themselves in the league, still yet to be beaten after three matches in the first five rounds (BYE + Postponed Round four). Their confident victory over Rochedale saw them crack the top five of the table with a game in hand.

The Wanderers took an early lead when Michael Scarff put them ahead within four minutes of kick-off. Ben Lynch doubled the lead just 22 minutes later giving the home side a favourable lead heading into half-time.

Rochedale struggled to gain control of the match through the second half, and didn’t cause much worry for the Sunshine Coast goal. The home side came close numerous times throughout the half with Ben Lynch having his effort rocket off the cross bar just after half-time. James Verdin put the game to bed in the 77^th minute to complete what was a solid performance all round for The Wanderers.

 

Eastern Suburbs – BYE

The Tigers got the BYE this week and travel to Wynnum to take on the Wolves in round six. With the rained out round four, The Tigers will have had three weeks to learn from their round three loss to the Wanderers on the Sunshine Coast. That’s a long break in football terms, and The Tigers will be eager to come out firing.
