A late goal for Georgina Amos has seen Eastern Suburbs Women return to winning ways, edging Western Pride Women 1-0 at Heath Park.

Amos converted at the second attempt from an 84th minute penalty to notch her first goal of the campaign and end a three-match winless run for Easts.

An impressive performance from Pride goalkeeper Kirsten Veeren kept the visitors in the game despite a second-half attacking onslaught from the hosts.

The result lifts Easts to the top four but they remain ten points adrift of league leaders The Gap; while Pride are without a win in their past seven outings and remain mired in the bottom half of the table.

Key Moments

3’ – CHANCE FOR PRIDE – Easts captain Laura Harris turns over possession to gift Melissa Von Bischoffhausen a sight on goal but her well-struck effort is saved by Anastasia Mavrick

6’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – a 25 yard pile driver from Hakana Dixon is tipped over the crossbar by Pride goalkeeper Kirsten Veeren

11’ – CHANCE FOR PRIDE – A turnover from Susanne McKeen results in Emma Barnes chancing her arm from distance but Mavrick is up to task to make the save

21’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – Tegan Riding plays a neat one-two with Michaela Hatzirodos but the ensuing shot from the edge of the box is directed straight at Veeren

32’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – Georgina Amos finds space on the edge of the box but her shot is denied by the crossbar

46’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – The hosts look to capitalise on a cheap turnover from Pride as Dixon picks out an unmarked Ashlee Watkins, but her shot from 10 yards is gobbled up by Veeren

63’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – A goalmouth scramble results in a chance for Riding to open account but her strike, headed for the top corner, is denied by a top-shelf save from Veeren

65’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – Riding and Dixon combine to fashion another opportunity but Veeren is once again up to task to keep scores level

76’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – A dangerous cross from Amos is misjudged by Veeren but Watkins fails to capitalise with a half-chance at close range

84’ – GOAL FOR EASTS – a handball by Pride’s Mariecamilla Falaniko Ah Ki sends Amos to the penalty spot – the initial attempt is saved by Veeren but the rebound falls kindly for Amos to take a composed touch and bury the finish on the second attempt

86’ – CHANCE FOR EASTS – Amos delivers a pin-point cross to find Riding but the headed effort goes wide of the post

What They Said

“(Pride) had a good game plan and probably a little but disappointing for them they didn’t leave with a share of the points. From our point of view I take the positives out it – we kept a clean sheet and we created many opportunities. To do that, with the personnel available, was a really positive performance.“ – Garrath McPherson, Eastern Suburbs FC Women coach

“I think the defensive effort was really good and not just from the back four but from the whole team. The forwards pressed together, everyone moved across together and we kept our shape. I think we worked a lot better as a team today and we really played for each other.“ – Kirsten Veeren, Western Pride FC Women captain
