The Gap FC Women’s coach Rob Askew was delighted with the way his side scored the winning goal to become PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s Champions.

Gators fought from a goal down against Palm Beach SC at Corporate Travel Management Stadium on Saturday night to secure a Premiership-Championship double in the competition’s inaugural season.

Askew’s side fell behind midway through the first half before levelling terms via a long range strike from Leah Curtis just after the half hour.

However, Askew said he couldn’t be happier with the manner in which his side ultimately secured victory - Gabe Marzano delivering a pin-point pass to allow a first time finish from Victoria Stephenson.

“That is something we’ve worked a lot at - to get that early ball on the ground and across the goal,” Askew explained post-match.

“(Marzano’s) was a fabulous pass and it was a great finish but Ruth Blackburn got into those positions about three or four times early in the second half and we didn’t quite get the outcome we would’ve liked.”

“It’s something that we work at and it’s a big feature of our game and it’s pleasing to score that way.”

Despite dominating the contest for extended periods, Askew conceded his side perhaps could have wrapped up the win earlier had made more of their chances.

“I think we made it a bit difficult for ourselves to some extent,” he explained.

“I thought we battled hard but we had quite a few chances and I think we could’ve done a little bit better and made it a little more comfortable for us.”

“In the end it was 2-1 and you’re never safe at that (margin) and that last four or five minutes was quite stressful,” Askew concluded.
