Fire Look To Youth To Arrest Form Dip

Sunshine Coast FC today confirmed they have released Rhys Roberts and Kaine Frew in a response to the club’s mid-season form slide.

Fire are without a win in their past nine PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland matches and were also bundled out of the Westfield FFA Cup at the first qualifying hurdle for the second straight year.

In response, club coaching staff and club management decided to look towards 2016 by giving their Under 18 Boys squad members opportunities in senior football, leaving no room for Frew and Roberts.

Attacker Frew scored twice in 16 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland appearances for Fire this season, while defender Roberts also turned out in 15 matches.

A statement from the club thanked the pair for their contribution and wished them the best going forward.

“It has been, and remains, Club policy to do its best to bring forward promising young players to give them the opportunity to develop as players but also to place them in the shop window for potential selection to higher levels,” the statement read.

It concluded, “Clearly coaching staff have had to make a difficult decision as to the players to release to both try and generate an improvement in the team performance but also to provide the opportunities mentioned above.”

In positive news for Fire Jacob Fulluck and Kobe Fuller have been selected to trial with Hyundai A-League club Central Coast Mariners.

Fulluck is Fire’s leading goalscorer this season with eight goals despite only starting in six of his 17 appearances in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland this season.

He will be joined in Gosford by Fire Under 16 Boys’ Kobe Fuller, who has struck 45 goals over three seasons of junior PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland football.
