SWQ Thunder Women scored their first win of the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland campaign, easily dispatching Souths United Women 6-1 at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday.

Talitha Doro netted a brace for the hosts with further goals from Rosanna Berry, Kate Beecham, Tiffany Dibley and Elle Mollenhauer rounding out the heavy haul.

Souths netted a consolation courtesy of Kodie Fuller in the second half.

Doro opened the scoring inside the opening ten minutes, delivering a powerful left-footed finish from the edge of the penalty area into the top right corner of the goal.

The hosts doubled their advantage on the quarter hour when Berry headed home from a corner kick.

Souths spurned a chance to halve the margin shortly after when Gemma Kline shot wide of the target one-on-one with Thunder goalkeeper Jessica Broadfoot.

Thunder also failed to make the most of their chances as the half wore on, unable to add to their two-goal lead prior to half-time despite Souths

After the restart the floodgates opened - Beecham adding Thunder’s third with a crafty chipped finish to beat scrambling Souths goalkeeper Megan Byriel.

Fuller offered the visitors a hint of a comeback prior to the hour, latching onto a long ball before delivering an assured finish.

A brief purple patch followed for Souths before Thunder reasserted their dominance to close out the contest - Dibley restoring the three goal margin with a driven, left-footed strike with 15 minutes remaining in regular time.

Two further goals in the final stages rubbed further salt in South’s wounds as Doro netted her second from the penalty spot before Mollenhauer added a sixth via a clinical finish during an lengthy period of time added on.

Speaking post match, Doro said Thunder were delighted to get the monkey off their back and record their first three points of the season.

“It’s good to score some goals. It’s kind of hard at training because we don’t have any goals at our pitches yet, so it’s good to get some practice in during the game,” she explained.

Souths’ Charmaine Johnson conceded the slow start to the season had been disappointing but that she and her teammates aren’t letting their heads drop.

“Each game we’re getting a little bit more confident and achieving a little bit more even though the scoreline isn’t suggesting that,” she explained.
