Red Devils To Tighten Defence

Ryan Cokell (RED)

Redlands United defenders Ryan Cokell and Cory Sewell are aiming to keep their first clean sheet of the season as they travel away to Olympic FC on Sunday.

The pair admitted that the mistakes in the Red Devils defence had led to the team conceding preventable goals in the first two games of the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2015 season.

However, they are confident they can iron out the creases ahead of the Round 3 clash - with both Redlands and Olympic without a win in the opening two rounds.

“We’re good going forward and we’ve scored in both games but we need to tighten up at the back. We’re a team and all eleven of us have to be defensive minded when we need to be,” said Cokell (pictured).

“We’ve got the set up and it might take a few more weeks for us to get to where we want to be but the important thing is to try to keep a clean sheet.”

Both defenders have returned to the club this year for the chance to play first team football after Sewell spent a season at Olympic FC and Cokell played community football locally last season.

“I’m happy to be back at Redlands this season and playing with the team. The comradery here is fantastic and all the boys stick together regardless of how long they've been in the team,” said Cokell.

When asked about his former club, Sewell predicted that the Red Devils would have a tough challenge ahead of them especially given that Olympic are playing at home for the first time this season.

“It should be a really good game but it’s always going to be tough playing away to Olympic no matter who you are,” said Sewell.

“The boys are getting better and better every week though and we have a lot of good talent in the back line. We have numerous boys that can play in different positions and we are growing and working together as a team,” said Sewell.

“We have confidence in our team but the first two results didn't really show that. We believe in ourselves and we will work hard this season to aim for a top four finish,” added Cokell.

Redlands United FC v Olympic FC will be live streamed from the PlayStation 4® NPL Queensland website this Sunday. Kick off is scheduled for 6pm.
