Olympic Win Macron Cup

Olympic FC won the Macron Cup pre-season tournament on Saturday following a 3-0 win over hosts Peninsula Power at AJ Kelly Park in Redcliffe.
Tim Smits netted prior to half-time before second half goals to Danny Byrne and Costa Psaros sealed the silverware for the two-time PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Grand Finalists.
Power, who will compete in Football Brisbane Trophy Superstore Premier League in 2015, started promisingly with the bulk of the early chances before Olympic fought their way back in to the contest.
Smits scored the opener five minutes before the break after being picked out by a pass from Byrne - the striker delivering a smart left-footed finish.
Power threatened once more in the early stages of the second half as Psaros cleared a pair of attempts on the goal line before Olympic struck twice in quick time to seal the win.
Byrne doubled the advantage with a screamer from distance into the crook of the goal just after the hour before Psaros slid a well-placed shot past Power goalkeeper Jake Reesby a minute later.
Olympic captain Byrne was named Player of the Final in the post-match presentation.
Olympic’s win is the second by a PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland club in the pre-season competition after Palm Beach SC claimed the inaugural title in 2014.
Olympic will commence their PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign away to Moreton Bay United in a fortnight’s time.
