Gators Sign Irish International

The Gap FC have announced the first major signing of the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s season – signing Irish international Elaine Murray.
Murray, 25, is capped three-times for the Republic of Ireland national team at senior level and also represented her homeland at youth levels.
Capable of playing as either a defender or midfielder, Murray strengthens a Gators side that has dominated Football Brisbane community competition in recent seasons – including winning last year’s South-East Queensland Women’s Premiership.
Nicknamed ‘Titch’, Murray is currently returning to full fitness following an ACL reconstruction.
The Gap also announced that Queensland Academy of Sport product Venus Phonsavathdy, will also join the Gators for the 2015 campaign.
Like Murray, Phonsavathdy is also recovering from a severe knee injury, however Gators coach Rob Askew said he was confident his new recruits will make an impact in the new competition in 2015.
“Both players are very talented and add to our already impressive depth which will be needed in what I expect will be a much tougher week in week out competition,” Askew said.
“They have also both impressed me with their character and attitude so far and I think they will fit nicely into our team culture,” he concluded.
