Mid-season signing Rhys Meredith is firing in the goals for Olympic FC as the Brisbane club looks to defend their 2013 NPL Queensland title.

The speedy forward notched his fourth goal in five matches for Olympic in Sunday’s 2-1 win against Sunshine Coast, extending the team’s winning run to seven games across all competitions.

“It was nice to get another goal, to help the team, and we’re winning so it’s all good,” Meredith said.

“We were a bit flat on Sunday but it’s good to know we can win when we’re not playing at our best.”

Meredith, 26, joined Olympic in June from Redlands United and previously played with Victorian powerhouse South Melbourne.

He scored against his old club earlier this month with a stunning long range free-kick at Cleveland Showgrounds – a match Olympic went on to win 2-0.

“It couldn’t get any sweeter to be honest, it would definitely have to be up there with the best goals I’ve scored,” he said.

“I was having problems at Redlands and decided to come across to Olympic who had been interested in me for a while.”

“I’m really enjoying it here, everyone’s been friendly from the players to the coach to the staff.”

Meredith is cup-tied for Olympic’s Westfield FFA Cup campaign, freeing him to concentrate solely on the league.

“It’s disappointing to have to watch the FFA Cup but for me it’s about helping the team as much as I can and trying to push on and win the finals,” Meredith said.

“That’s most important for the club, to secure that second spot and do as well as we can in the finals.”

Meredith has come to the attention of Hyundai A-League clubs, having secured a trial with Western Sydney Wanderers last year on the back of a pre-season hat-trick against Brisbane Roar.
