The Gap FC Women’s captain Bec Price says the culture and support of the club towards women's football was crucial to the team’s Premiership-Championship double-winning season.

Gators wrapped up their second trophy of the inaugural PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Palm Beach SC Women at Corporate Travel Management Stadium on Saturday night.

The result continues a remarkable series of successes for the club’s Senior Women’s teams in recent seasons- including winning last year’s precursor South East Queensland Women’s League title as well as the Elaine Watson Cup.

Asked what was the secret to Gator’s continued success in women’s football, Price explained that several factors complemented each other to deliver results on the field.

“You probably can’t isolate one thing but it probably starts at the top with the club - they are superb,” the former Brisbane Roar FC Westfield W-League player explained.

“They really support (coach) Rob (Askew) and everything off the field is looked after so we can go out and perform and train to our best.”

She added that a healthy competitive culture within the squad was responsible for the team’s cutting edge on match day.

“We really hold each other accountable at training. You have to work hard for your spot - it’s not guaranteed,” Price said.

“That sort of in-house competition means we all improve every week. It sounds pretty simple but it’s simple at a whole lot of important levels.”

Price said the atmosphere at Corporate Travel Management Stadium, home of Brisbane City FC, made for a showpiece setting for the decider - helped along by a large number of Gap juniors in the stands.

“This is a great place to play football with the stadium and the sound seems to reverb. It’s loud and it’s close and the pitch is perfect for this time of year.”

“So thank you to Brisbane City, we really appreciate it,” Price concluded.
