UQFC Women kept pace with the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland top four by defeating Moreton Bay United Women 7-1 at South Pine Sporting Complex on Sunday.

Jets grabbed a consolation with their first goal of the season late in proceedings but it did little to sully the afternoon for a rampant UQFC.

Though new Jets signing Jamee Woolf drew a first-minute save from Dani Harbot, it was the visitors who went ahead early as Great Bodey headed in a free-kick at the far post.

Renee Rudder then produced a double save in the 10th minute but was unable to keep UQFC from going 2-0 ahead in the 20th minute when Georgia Chapman finished from inside the area.

Though Rudder and Lauren Spreadborough combined to keep out Lucinda Pullar, the away side did get their third before the interval courtesy of Cindy Carroll’s searing shot into the top corner.

It was 4-0 within five minutes of the restart in fortuitous circumstances as Kaitlyn Winter’s cross rebounded in off a Jets defender.

Georgia Chapman then completed her hattrick with two goals in eight minutes, first beating an opposition defender and firing low before next turning home Cairisjana Mitchell’s cutback.

Jets then finally had their chance to celebrate thanks to Rylee Lemke, who smashed the team’s first goal of 2015 into the top corner from long range.

However, after twice hitting the woodwork, Bodey shaded any Jets joy by tapping in the final kick of the game to complete the 7-1 result.

Speaking after the match, newly-appointed Jets coach Gary Ward was hopeful of the side building on its first goal with more attacking impetus.

“I think moving forward with the players we’ve got we can definitely look to play out and play a more positive brand, so I’m happy with the effort they put in today,” he said.

UQFC coach Wayne Gibbon believed his side still needed to improve for the tasks ahead.

“Particularly in the second I though we tired, we got a bit disorganised, we didn’t really play as well as we could do and didn’t play as well as we’re going to have to in the next few weeks,” Gibbon said.
