NEWS: Successful Mini Roos Gala Day attracts awesome crowd – and media coverage!

THE Southern Hub hosted an extremely successful Mini Roos Gala day, on Sunday, which saw more than 4,000 players, parents, officials and fans descend on Surf Coast FC’s Banyul Warri Reserve in North Torquay.

The day doubled up as the Melbourne Victory Regional Roadshow’s Geelong event, with household A-League stars, Archie Thompson, Beshart Berisha, Kosta Barbarouses, Scott Galloway and Thomas Deng making an appearance later in the day.

Apart from getting an autograph and having their photo taken with the Victory stars, fans of all ages were able to take part in a penalty shootout activity, have a photo with the actual A League championship trophy as well as take in action involving the next generation of local footballers.

A massive logistical effort that required a large diligent army of volunteers, the event attracted well over 4,000 people throughout the course of the day. There was a staggering 75 games that had to be scheduled on a total of 21 pitches, which involved all of the region’s U7, U9 and U11 sub-junior teams.

An amazing effort by all involved, but special mention must be made of the respective Hub co-ordinators Paul Gilmore (Southern) and Steve Siketa (Northern), who ensured the schedule of matches ran smoothly throughout the day.

Their collective efforts were rewarded with fantastic coverage in the local media, with a write-up of the day and a large photo of two Barwon SC juniors splashed across page 3 of today’s Geelong Advertiser.

Well done to everyone involved!
