GEELONG REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE – (MEN’S) ROUND 15 PREVIEW

It will be a case of top versus bottom and second versus second bottom in this weekend’s Round 15 of the GRFC Men’s Division One competition.

On Friday night, new leaders Surfside Waves will host bottom placed Breakwater Eagles at Shell Road Reserve, hungry to maintain their lofty position at the summit of the elite Men’s competition.

The Eagles, on the other hand, will be keen to cause an upset and leapfrog Corio off the bottom rung of the league ladder. Kick off is at 8:30pm.

Corio, meanwhile, will make the short trip up to Bell Post Hill to take on the wounded Geelong Rangers at Myers Reserve on Sunday. The Rangers, who just a week ago held top spot with confidence, last week fell from grace with a dismal 0-4 defeat at the hands of the Waves.

The Gers will be keen to redeem themselves with a percentage boosting victory against the strugglers from Hume Reserve.

Finally, in a mouthwatering battle for fourth spot at Grovedale Reserve on Sunday Barwon SC will host Drysdale SC. With both teams on 22 points, along with third placed Deakin Ducks who this weekend have the enforced bye, any result - other than a loss - will see either/or both teams jump a spot or two up the ladder.

DIVISION TWO:

Deakin Ducks, Lara SC and Bellarine Sharks will all be looking for the three points to ensure a position in the Top Four, with just four weeks remaining in the Men’s Division Two regular season.

The trio have each accumulated 26 points, so far this season, with Deakin in third, Lara in fourth and the Sharks in fifth spot on the ladder, courtesy of varying goal differences.

Lara SC will have the easiest assignment of the three, travelling to the White Eagle Club to take on cellar dwellers Breakwater Eagles on Sunday at 1:00pm.

Deakin and Bellarine, meanwhile, will face off against each other in a cut throat clash at St Leonards’ Lake Reserve on Sunday at 3:00pm.

In other game, top side Surf Coast FC hosts lowly Drysdale SC at Banyul Warri Reserve on Friday night at 7:30pm, second placed Barwon Heads is away to seventh placed Barwon Blue at Grovedale Reserve on Sunday at 1:00pm, while eighth placed Bell Park hosts the sixth placed Elcho Park Cardinals at the Bell Park Sports Club also on Sunday at 1:00pm.

 DIVISION THREE:

In the pick of the Division Three round of matches, fourth placed Barwon White hosts fifth placed Surfside Waves Blue at Grovedale Reserve on Friday night at 8:30pm.

With both teams on 25 points, a win for either side will catapult the victor well and truly into the Top Four, while a loss could prove disastrous for the loser as sixth placed Lara (24 points) and seventh placed Surfside Waves White (23 points) are breathing down their collective necks.
