SECOND will take on third when Surfside Waves hosts Deakin Ducks on Friday night at Shell Road Reserve to kick off this weekend’s Round 7 of the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 Round 7 competition. Deakin and Surfside are on equal points, both having accumulated 12 points so far this season. Third placed Surfside only trails the 2nd placed Ducks due to a slightly inferior goal difference.

Corio SC will take on the top of the table Rangers at Hume Reserve under lights, also on Friday night.

It will be a tough task for Corio to overcome Geelong Rangers, who are yet to drop any points and have won all their games rather convincingly so far this season and sit in top spot with 18 points from six games.

Corio, which was promoted from Division 2 last year, has performed extremely well in its first season in the top flight and currently sits in 4th spot with 11 points and are just one point behind the joint 2nd and 3rd placed Deakin and Surfside.

On Sunday afternoon, at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct, Drysdale will host a struggling Barwon Heads. The visitors will need to significantly improve after they were defeated 17-0 at the hands of Rangers last week. Drysdale currently are 6th with seven points and will be hoping to take the opportunity to keep up with the rest of the table.

Lara United is set to host Barwon at the Lara Recreation Reserve on Sunday. United has gone three weeks without a win and will be hoping to end their winless run which has seen the Navy Blues plummet to third last spot on the ladder.

Barwon, meanwhile, has gone the last two rounds without a win but has managed one draw in those two matches. The Grovedale outfit will be hoping to secure a win to keep up with the teams higher above it on the table.

Surf Coast has significantly improved in recent weeks and will visit last placed Breakwater Eagles at White Eagle House on Sunday.

Having won their last two games on the trot, the Coasters will be looking to continue their good run of form against the struggling hosts. The Eagles are yet to secure a win this season and will hope to come away with something from this game.
