ROUND 6 of the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition was played over the weekend in cold and cloudy conditions. First place could still change at any time as the top two placed teams (Geelong Rangers and Drysdale) are both on 10 points and the 3rd and 4th placed teams (Bell Park and Barwon) aren’t too far behind on 8 points each.

Surf Coast hosted Deakin Ducks on Friday night at Banyul Warri Reserve and the match ended in a draw with the game finishing 1-1. Neither of the teams’ goalscorers were submitted by the clubs. Only two points separate the two sides with Deakin in 5th spot with 7 points and Surf Coast in 6th spot on 5 points.

Over at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct, Drysdale hosted Barwon SC on Saturday afternoon. Drysdale secured the three points on their home turf, defeating the visiting Barwon 4-2.

Catie Hodge, Polly Marshall, Louise Riley and Lauren Salaviejus contributed to the home team’s victory with singles apiece. Jessica Kenyon scored two goals for Barwon but it wasn’t enough for the visitors to take anything away from the game.

Across town, Kardinia College was left empty handed at home against top of the table Geelong Rangers who easily defeated the Students 6-0. The goalscorers for Rangers included Emanuella Fierro with a brace, Zoe Tizzard, Ruby McCloskey, Alley Van Dalen and Lara Heric all with singles.

Rangers are in first position on the table with 10 points and are have a game in hand on 2nd placed Drysdale. Kardinia remains in last position on the table still with no points and a -29-goal difference.

Bell Park was forced to sit out this week with a BYE and as a result has slipped to third spot on the standings.
