The MAFQ Superman of the Year award goes to a person who shows outstanding service to MAFQ during the year. This service is what keeps MAFQ ticking over, improves the professionalism of the organisation and increases and improves player participation.
For the first time in our history, we have two Supermen. Both men performed in different areas, both men identified a need and stood up to the challenge. Both men, while very different, are of similar stature and often need to stand up to be seen in a crowd.
The first 2015 MAFQ Superman is Arnold Keuker of Redcliffe fame. It was not only Arnold's service to the Redcliffe Masters and the Redcliffe Footy club in general when the whole club went through trying financial upheaval and then devastating floods, but also his work as Registrar of MAFQ. Arnold has done a tremendous job on improving the Association and Clubs awareness, exposure and capabilities with the SportingPulse player and game management database. This is one of the behind-the-scenes activities that players don't see but without it we would fall over. SportingPulse is a resource that will only increase our professionalism and compliance and we hope that Arnold can continue his great work in this area.
The second 2015 MAFQ Superman is Glenn Phillips, or more commonly known as Sparra. Sparra has been around since Adam was in shorts, and given Sparra's legs are only two feet long, he has never known what it is like to wear shorts. Sparra was responsible for starting the Over 60's age group at the national carnival this year. This took a lot of work not only sourcing QLD players but he was also in constant touch with the other states to ensure that we had a fully-fledged competition. This work will leave an ongoing legacy which older footballers will be able to enjoy for years to come, if this year's carnival was any indication.
The Board would like to congratulate and thank both Arnold and Sparra for their contributions to the game that we all love and trust that their association continues for a long time into the future.
