All games are 40 minutes in duration (4 x 10 min. quarters) and will be played under the International Netball Rules.  There will be a 2 minute break at quarter time and 2 minutes for half time with 4 minutes between games.

3. Team Registration
Prior to the Competition: All teams must complete an online registration form by the relevant closing date providing contact details for at least one (preferably two) Team Contact who will become the main point of contact with the Centre.
During the Competition: Teams may not take the court unless registration fees have been paid in full prior to the start of the season.  Team Umpire Contribution must also be paid in cash at the Registration Desk prior to the start of your game.

4. Team Uniform
Teams are expected to wear a uniform. The same coloured shirt is a minimum requirement for a uniform.
Playing Bibs are compulsory and Teams can either provide their own, or buy them from Netball Wellington Centre for $60 (incl GST).

5.  Nails/Jewellery/Hair
No item of jewellery except for a wedding ring and/or medic alert bracelet shall be worn on court - necklaces, wrist bands, earrings and rings are not allowed on court.
Please ensure nails are kept short for the game.  Nail clippers will be available at the Sports Control Desk.
Please ensure long hair is tied back so as not to restrict play or cause injury.

6. Age Criteria
The Men’s Competition is open to all players aged 16 years and older.

7. Team Numbers
Teams can have up to 16 players registered in their team. Any team wishing to register more than 16 during a season must apply for dispensation.
A team may take the court with a minimum of five (5) players.

8. Player Registration
All players must have their full name registered on the Team Registration Sheet (TRS). A player will only be deemed as registered to that team upon completing playing a game for that team. Each week the players participating in their game must be ticked off as playing on the TRS.
Failure to complete the player registration for a week will result in the team forfeiting the game (If the result is a win, the correct score will remain but no points will be given).
Teams playing with less than the standard seven players must note this on the TRS to avoid a forfeit.
Teams found to have played an unregistered player, or playing a player under a false name will incur a $50 fine as well as forfeiting the game.

Please note for the competitive men’s grade the following point system per player will apply.
Based on a player’s past representation for the 2015 and 2016 NZMMNA competitions, each player will be awarded the below points.
NZ Representative – 5 points
Mens or Mixed A grade – 4 points
Mens or Mixed B grade – 3 points
Mens or Mixed 23 and Unders grade – 2 points
Mens or Mixed 20 and Unders grades – 1 points
Non-Representative players or players who last played nationals prior to 2015 -2 points.

Each team’s line up can’t add up to more than 18 points for the team’s total points for that quarter.  This includes any injury substitutions during the quarter.

9.  Player Eligibility for “Finals Series”
Players must have played a minimum of 2 games for an 8-week competition, or 3 games for a 10-week competition, to be eligible to participate in the “Finals Series” of the Twilight competition they are playing in.

10. Specific Game Time Requests
It is expected that all teams will be able to play in any of the 4 times used for the competition.
In general the draw for an entire Round of games will be released at the beginning of that Round.
Any team requiring a specific game time for a particular day will need to advise this prior to the draw being released to avoid extra costs
Any specific game time for a particular day will be charged a $20 fee if the draw for that day has already been released.
Netball Wellington Centre will attempt to accommodate specific time preferences, however should these conflict with your opposition’s requests or court availability there will be the need for compromise.

11. First Aid
NWC Twilight Staff will be trained in Basic First Aid.
A First Aid kit will be held at the Sports Control Desk.
Ice bags will be available from the ASB Sports Centre Reception, or at the Hataitai Courts, in the First Aid Room
Each team is encouraged to bring their own First Aid kit also.

12. Injuries
So we can keep track of any potential Health & Safety issues all injuries must be reported to NWC Game Staff and an injury form filled out.

13.  Physicality in Competitions
It is expected that general play in a men’s game will be slightly more physical. While the same rules will apply towards Fair Play as outlined in Section 14 of these Rules, it must be accepted that a slightly higher level of physicality will be implied. Any team concerned about overly vigorous play must voice their concerns through their Captain to their umpires during the breaks in the game.

14. Fair-Play
No foul language or intimidation directed towards players, umpires or staff is to be tolerated on court or the sideline during a game.  Following two warnings from an Umpire you will be asked to leave the court immediately.  Teams are expected to adopt fair-play practices in their games.  This competition is organised to provide an opportunity for people to enjoy netball outside the winter competition.
The key focus is enjoyment in participation.
Teams who are considered to be not applying fair-play principles in their participation may be excluded from the competition.  Netball Wellington Centre applies the following fair-play principles to its competitions:
Fair-play in netball means:
• always playing fair and within the rules;
• always respecting your opponents and officials;
• always giving it heaps, but keeping your cool;
• Always respecting and supporting your team-mates, coaches/managers.

15. Substitutions and Team Changes
Both teams have the right to make substitutions and/or team changes either
• At an interval or
• When play is stopped for injury/illness or blood. However in this case the injured or ill player for whom play was stopped must be involved in that team’s substitutions and/or team changes.
• The number of substitutions is not limited provided the players used are those named for the match.

16. Injury Time
• The umpires hold time for blood when noticed or for injury/illness when requested by an on-court player (in extreme circumstances the umpires may hold time without a request being made).  The player concerned must leave the court within 30 seconds and receive any treatment off the court.
• Only primary care person/s are permitted on the court to assess the player’s medical condition and to assist the player from the court.  In the event that the injury means the player concerned cannot be removed safely within 30 seconds, the umpires will extend the time for the player to leave the court.
• Any blood on the ball or the court must be cleaned before play restarts and the player to leave the court if needed.
• During the stoppage both teams may make substitutions and/or team changes, provided these are completed within the time allowed for the stoppage by the umpires.
• If no substitution is made for the injured/ill player, or for a player who is bleeding, play may resume with the position left vacant.  If the player is the Centre and no substitution is made, one player must move to play Centre to allow the match to continue.
• If the position is left vacant the player concerned or a substitute may subsequently, after advising the umpire, take the court immediately after one of the following: a goal has been scored (in this case the player or the substitute must play in the position left vacant), a stoppage for injury/illness or blood, or an interval.

17. Points & Playoffs
Teams are awarded 4 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for a loss by 5 goals or less and zero points for a loss.

Playoffs:  In the event of a draw in semis or finals, extra time will be played under the Golden Goal Rule whereby play continues without stoppage after the final siren until one team scores the winning goal and is declared the overall winner.

18. Draws & Results
Draws and results will be posted on the Netball Wellington Centre website www.netballwellington.co.nz
Locate the “Draws & Results” tab and select your ‘Mens League’ from the options available.
If for any reason it is not possible to update the website, Team Contacts will receive the draw via email once finalised.

19.  Match Balls
A match ball will be provided by the Netball Wellington Centre to be returned after each game to the Umpires and returned to the Registration Desk at the end of the day. A limited number of practice balls will be made available to teams from the Registration Desk however please ensure these are returned prior to the start of your game.

20. Umpires
Qualified umpires will be supplied by the teams. However, the umpires must be NZ certified or suitably qualified for these games. If you cannot supply an umpire NWC will attempt to find an umpire for your team at a fee of $10.00 per game. Three day notice is required. The Umpire’s decision is binding and final.

21. Scorers
To allow the umpires to concentrate on officiating the games it is preferred that each team provide a member to score during the game. Umpires will check the scorecard after each quarter.
Unless the teams otherwise agree, the role of scorer should be rotated between the teams either at each quarter time or swapped from one team to the other at half time.
Nonetheless, a representative of each team should stand with the scorecard in the middle side-line at all times to prevent disputes regarding the score.
Unless there is evidence to the contrary satisfactory to Netball Wellington Centre, the official score will be the score on the scorecard.

22. Late Starts
Any team that fails to take the court within 5 minutes from the start of the round will forfeit five goals.  Five goals will be awarded to the opposition at the end of the game.
Any team that has not taken the court by the end of the first quarter will lose the game by default with a 15-0 score line applying.

23. Formal Complaints
Any Formal Complaints must be received in writing by the Netball Wellington Centre Games Coordinator by 5pm the following day. Verbal complaints will not be followed up on.

24.  Defaults
Defaults are to be avoided at all costs.
Please ensure that you have sufficient players available to field a team every week.
Netball Wellington Centre must be notified of any defaults at least 48 hours prior to your game, please advise us as soon as possible on games@netballwellington.co.nz or phone (04) 387 6016.
Defaults that fall outside a 48 hour notice period incur a fine of $70 per game.
Default fees must be paid prior to taking the court the following week.
All defaults (regardless of the notification time) will incur a 2 point penalty.
No refunds will be granted for games that are defaulted.
Any team defaulting twice within a competition may risk being withdrawn from the permanently.

Given sufficient advance warning the Netball Wellington Centre may attempt to assist to arrange an alternative game for your opposition where possible.

Prize-giving will be held after the finals on that respective night. 1st and 2nd place will win major prizes.
