Thank you and well done to the hundreds of volunteers and staff from footy clubs across the state that have undertaken the State Government COVID Marshal training. We certainly appreciate the additional workload on club officials and volunteers to ensure COVID Marshals are present at training, match day and when operating your licenced venue – however this is an important initiative, not only allowing the ongoing conduct of business/activities in SA, but may allow for the further easing of restrictions into the future. Let’s make sure footy clubs continue to lead the way in delivering COVIDSafe environments for our players, officials, volunteers and supporters! Just another friendly reminder that any event where you are expecting more than 200 persons to attend your venue or event, you must have a dedicated COVID Marshal in attendance. However, this doesn’t mean you’re in it alone; others undertaking other duties such as ground manager, security, bar and canteen staff can also be trained marshals too. COVID Marshal training is now available HERE. SANFL has created a fact sheet to assist clubs navigate COVID Marshal requirements, which is available at sanfl.com.au/returntoplay With finals also rapidly approaching, we also encourage clubs and leagues to work together to support one another in delivery of these larger scale events. Ways you can support each other include:
- Sharing key messaging on social media and other electronic platforms
- Offering additional volunteer or club/league staff support at other venues
- Sharing or loaning of equipment such as bollards, bunting, entry clickers etc
- Picking up the phone and checking in

SA COUNTRY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS | TENDER
The SA Country Football Championships is an event that showcases, supports and celebrates country football, with a vision of football leaving lasting legacies in communities. In 2019, for the first time in the events 25 year history, the SA Country Football Championships was held in conjunction with a SANFL Statewide Super League match. The event delivered significant economic and community benefits to the hosting region. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 event did not proceed. SANFL is seeking tenders from interested organisations for the right to host the 2021 SA Country Football Championships, incorporating a SANFL Statewide Super League Regional Match. SANFL welcomes interest from regional councils, football/sporting clubs or other community groups to host the event. Tenders must be lodged in accordance with the Tender Conditions outlined in the tender document. Submissions are via the SANFL Smarty Grants platform HERE. Advice regarding the SA Country Football Championships was also sent to all local government authorities earlier this week. Tenders are due no later than 2:00pm on 6 October 2020.

Being involved in a sporting club is never uneventful and conflict is inevitable in the competitive environment of sport. From time to time issues arise, for example - over decisions about membership and selection and about the behaviour of members and personnel. Many of these problems can be ‘nipped in the bud’ if they are responded to when they first arise. However it is known that the longer an issue is left unattended the harder it is to resolve and the more likely it will develop into a formal complaint. Issues need to be addressed and everyone – administrators, coaches, officials, players and parents – has a role to play in doing so. Ideally, the response will help create an inclusive, safe, fair and respectful environment, particularly for children. Play By the Rules provides information on commonly occurring issues in sport including what the law says about the matter, and provides practical ideas by your role (e.g., coach) about ‘what to do now’ and ‘what to do next’. Click here to access FREE online courses for complaint handling, governance, child safe environments and more.
