CRICKET lovers get ready for the biggest cricket competition, the SP Super Series that will explode on Sunday April 13 at the Amini Park in Port Moresby.
Four teams Brian Bell, Steamships Hardware, Trukai Invincibles and Telikom Titans will be doing battle over the next 12 weeks for the ultimate glory-the prestigious SP Super Series Cup.
But the first three weeks promises to be a huge entertainment of cricket and great fun day for the family when the first Twnenty-20 match gets under way.
The Twenty-20 matches will end on April 27 with the final.
At 10.30am Brian Bell led by their captain and current PNG team captain Rarua Dikana will face a young Steamships Hardware outfit led by hard hitting batsman and captain Chris Amini.
Following the Brian Bell Steamships Hardware match will see another favourite son of PNG cricket John Ovia leading his side the Trukai Invincible against an unknown Telikom Titans side captained by Mahuta Kivung at 1.45pm.
The four teams have been supported very well by their team sponsors who are Brian Bell, Steamships, Trukai and Telikom while the major sponsor of the series is SP Brewery who have sponsored the semi professional competition with K80 000.
Future PNG cricket stars will be on show also during the 12 week period with the likes of Telikom Titan’s fast bowler Willie Gavera, Arua Dikana, Jason Kila, Eava Lamond (Trukai), Tony Ura, Rei Raga (Steamships Hardware), Raymond Haoda jnr, Joel Tom and Arina Lahari (Brian Bell).
The competition will also showcase current PNG internationals vying for a spot to two tournaments next year the world cricket league three in Argentina in January and the ICC world cup qualifiers in Dubai in April.
This will surely be a battle for supremacy as the country’s top 56 cricket players fight out for a spot in the national team, let the game begin!
