Captains from the Steamships Hardware and Trukai Invincible have made their intentions known about winning the prestigious SP Super Series Cricket Cup at their respective launching in Port Moresby on Thursday 03rd April.
The build up towards the SP Super Series semi professional competition got
underway with skippers from both teams announcing that they will make it their business to see their respective teams to the finals.
Trukai Invincible’s captain John Ovia said that he was positive that his crop of players selected can get the job done.
At Konedobu the Trukai Invincible represented by Ovia, vice captain Mahuru Dai, coach Serua Loa and manager Udu Vai gave a sneak preview of the team’s playing uniform and what was expected of the team in their first Twenty-20 match against the Telikom Titans at the Amini Park on Sunday.
The launching witnessed by Papua New Guinea Cricket Board Chairman Mick Nades and team sponsor representative and Trukai Marketing Co-coordinator Tony Changei
Changei said Trukai Industries was happy to be associated with the Trukai Invincible cricket team.
“Trukai is glad to be associated with this new concept and hope that our contribution could lead to bigger and better things for PNG cricket.
“With that I would like to officially launch the ‘Trukai Invincible team for the SP Super 4s Series.”
Nades thanked Trukai for stepping on board the SP Super Series semi professional competition and assured the team sponsor that the group of players they were supporting would not let them down and give them their money’s worth.
Trukai Invincible’s coach Serua Loa was very optimistic about their first encounter against Telikom Titans on Sunday saying the Twnety-20 match would be exiting and with two current national players captain John Ovia and his vice Mahuru Dai’s experience the team is confident of a good outing.
“Twenty-20 will be new to some my players but with our internationals John and Mahuru in the side their presence would really boost the team to do well,” said a positive Loa.
While over at Waigani, Steamships Hardware General Manager Bruce Allan officially launch the Steamships Hardware super series cricket team witnessed by PNGCB chairman Mick Nades, Steamships Hardware National Operations Manager Ibro Cahut and the media.
Some of the Steamships Hardware cricket players present at the launching were captain Chris Amini, vice captain Kila Pala, bowlers William Harry and Loa Nou, coach Gavera Rarua and team manager John Vada.
In launching the Steamships Hardware cricket team Allan said, “We are proud to support a team in the SP Super Series competition and we believe this competition is great concept which we also believe will be the focal point for the development of cricket in the Papua New Guinea.”
“We have the youngest team in the competition and we are positive that this mixture of youth and experience will be able to take us all the way.
“We will put the nail in the coffin definitely with the young blood we have in our cricket team,” Allan said.
Steamships Hardware team captain Chris Amini said he was looking forward to their first Twnety-20 match against Brian Bell and said he has the bowlers and batsmen that can take them all the way to finals.
“We have the big hitters in the team and I’m positive they get the job done when it’s required.
“Our coach has also been instructing to play our normal so it will be exciting and good experience for some of the boys to have first taste of Twenty-20 on Sunday,” Amini said.
