MIC TO MAKE MARK AGAIN IN 2019

The Townsville Flames are thrilled to announce the retention of Micaela Cocks’ services for the 2019 season. Cocks will join the Flames on the back of a successful 2018 season with the team, hoping to do one better than the runner up finish against the Southern Districts Spartans.

Cocks, a familiar face on the Townsville Basketball scene arrives on the back of a hectic 2018 schedule. Beyond leading the Flames, Mic showcased her talents with the Townsville Fire, and represented New Zealand throughout the Commonwealth games, as well as the Fiba 3x3 Asia Cup, which Micaela not only won the tournament, but was named the MVP.

While Cocks will be looking forward to donning the Tall Ferns jersey in 2020, the QBL season is right on the doorstep commencing the 4th of May. Coach Luke Brennan was thrilled to retain the services of the superstar guard, and believes her international experience will be huge in her leadership role for the upcoming season.

“Mic’s contribution to us last season was huge, and getting her back for this season was a very high priority for our team.”

“Beyond the fact that she brings so much to the team when she’s on the court, her leadership towards developing the younger core group, as well as willingness to help out in the community amongst Townsville’s junior athletes is second to none. She’s a huge piece to our program and I am thrilled to have her back on board for 2019.”

Like Coach Brennan, Micaela is also looking forward to the season ahead.

“Townsville is home for me, it is always my first choice to play here. The goal is to build on our successful season and look to go one better in 2019.”

The Flames first game of the season will be held at the Furnace on the 4th of May, taking on South West Metro. Tickets are on sale now at townsville.basketball.net.au or call the office on 4779 4022.
