Womens Premier League Game v Norwood

PREMIER LEAGUE WOMENS MATCH NORTH ADELAIDE ROCKETS VS NORWOOD FLAMES
AT HILLCREST, APRIL 8TH

We had a showdown of our own at Hillcrest Stadium Saturday night, as the reigning champions took on our very own Rockets. Congratulations went to Opal and Taylor on their 50th Premier League games. Kirsty, Norrisha, Tayla, Lauren and Opal were the starting five and Tayla was quickly fouled and she made the most of the 2 shots. Lauren played strong defence and Opal made a nice three! T...ayla was handy with a block and strong defence under the basket. Jo, making her comeback from early retirement, and Sophie stepped onto the court. Jo scored and then they were joined by Courtney, who quickly made her presence felt with a smooth shot. Jo drove hard to the basket but was met by a fierce Norwood defence, causing a turn over. Courtney was in great form; a block, basket and then a fabulous three. At quarter time North were surprised by being in the lead 21 to 11.

Lauren and Kirsty weren’t afraid to play solid defensive pressure against their old team mates and good teamwork lead to a Norwood turnover, after succumbing to a turnover themselves. Tayla and Jo scored to keep the lead and Taylor Goggins joined the play. Jo as always, set the standard of second and even third efforts, to get the ball and make a shot count. A scramble let to another jump ball and with both teams hungry for the ball, turnovers kept the scoring low. At the long break the score was 38 to 23.

The starting five were back on and Norrisha opened the second half with a nice layup. She continued her good form with defensive pressure and Tayla make a terrific layup, then Kirsty made a beautiful three. The home crowd were excited and the tempo kept up. Opal was blocked, Sophie and Courtney continued to score and Lauren made a sneaky grab. Norwood weren’t done yet and pulled back the lead a little, to 13. Score was 56 to 43.

Georgia joined the team and Taylor was fouled and made one out of two of the shots. Lauren made another sneaky steal and scored. The intensity increased again and the Rockets knew that maintaining the margin was important. Kirsty blocked Kelsey M, and she fell hard and the Norwood coach yelled at the refs again. He was ejected as Kelsey was helped to her feet. Opal made a fabulous layup and Norrisha finished off the night with one out of two foul shots. The home crowd were as happy as the Crows’ supporters, with a memorable win in the showdown of the inner north eastern teams, as the Lady Rockets deservedly celebrated their win by 22 points, 73 to 51.

Top scorers were Tayla C 16, Courtney H 15 and Opal M 14 points
Top rebounders were Norrisha V - 11 and Jo H - 9

Happy Easter everyone and see you at Pasadena when we take on Sturt, 630pm, April 22nd.
