DEVELOPMENTAL MOVE !
The decision by the Oceania A.A. Council to appoint a new Athletics Development Officer for the southern part of Micronesia was greeted in the area with enthusiasm. Mr. Tierata Taukaban, currently also President of K.A.A., applied for the post with the support of K.A.A. and the guidance of O.A.A.
Among his planned tasks are to visit all the schools on South Tarawa, visit a number of the outer islands of the Gilbert Group which so far have not had courses organised by K.A.A., visit (at their request) other countries in southern Micronesia (e.g. Nauru and RMI), and venture to the far eastern Kiribati islands in the Line Group to complete his year's work.
The initial contract is for one year and his contract is dated October 15th. 2007 !
FUNDING.
Funding for his salary is covered by Oceania A.A. and by Kiribati N.O.C.
This will be supported (on application by K.A.A.) by grants from Oceania A.A. and K.N.O.C. to cover major expenses like international and national travel.
It is hoped (and expected) that this investment in the future of Micronesia athletics will bear fruit as early as the next Oceania A.A. Championships in Saipan in 2008.
