First-half goals to Dean Evans and Ashley Rosindale gave Perth a 2-0 win over Balcatta in a fiery PS4 National Premier Leagues WA clash.

It meant David Cyrus had a winning start to life at Perth having transferred from Balcatta during the week, and the Grenada international was pleased with the win first up.

“It was great to play with the new guys for the first time and keep a clean sheet,” he said.

There was a lot at stake for both clubs as Balcatta and Perth were third and fourth in the league respectively ahead of this game.

Perth went ahead in the eighth minute when a deflected volley from Evans left Balcatta goalkeeper Clint Davies stranded.

Captain Clark Keltie was back in the Perth side and dictated play in midfield, as the visitors kept Balcatta pinned in their own half.

The hosts found their rhythm as the game wore on though, and were unlucky not to equalise on 20 minutes when Alex Caniglia met Luke Randazzo’s cross.

A fiercely contested game, which featured nine yellow cards, then threatened to boil over as Patrick Sara picked up an injury, before Perth doubled their lead five minutes before the break.

Rosindale was quickest to react after prodding home from a goalmouth scramble following a free kick.

Balcatta came out with intent in the second half as Caniglia caused problems with his pace down the left.

Sara then played him through on goal, but Alex Dunn smartly saved his shot.

Cyrus was composed throughout against his old side and was called into action to make a sliding clearance from Gustavo Catarcione.

Kieran Stallard then drew a fantastic save from Dunn, before hitting the post minutes later with an acrobatic volley.

Perth closed out the game though, and Balcatta ended the match with 10 men, after Blamo Quaqua was carded twice in as many minutes.

Balcatta coach Ramon Falzon said he was proud of his side despite the result.

“We hit the post twice which was unlucky, but credit to Perth they were very good today,” he said.

“We’ve got Bayswater next week who are another great side, so we’ll have to be ready for that.”
