A dominant first half saw Bayswater City ease to a 4-2 away win over Inglewood United in their PS4 National Premier Leagues WA clash on Saturday.

All the visitors goals came before half time in what stand-in coach Stewart Moses described as a generally pleasing performance.

“It was good to get the win and I thought we scored some good goals,” he said.

“It was a bit disappointing not to score in the second half, but we’re happy with the win and with keeping that gap at the top of the table.”

League leaders Bayswater went behind in the 14th minute, after Inglewood’s Mohamed Awad showed great close control to hold the ball in the area, before curling a wonderful strike into the top left corner.

Inglewood, who had been dominant in the early stages of the match, saw their lead cancelled out three minutes later, as David Heagney headed across the face of goal for a sliding Brian Farrell to tap in.

Ruthless Bayswater then went ahead in the 21st minute, as Gustavo Giron Marulanda ran onto a long ball before hitting a sweet left-foot finish past Inglewood keeper Aleks Vrteski.

Heagney was awarded a penalty eight minutes later after being brought down in the area by what the hosts argued was a clean tackle.

Vrteski kept out Heagney’s initial effort, only for the Bayswater striker to beat him to the rebound, firing his follow-up into the roof of the net.

The procession continued when Heagney found himself open to nod in from close range in the final minute of the half.

Both sides appeared sluggish after the break, and, despite keeping Inglewood pegged back for much of the half, Bayswater were unable to extend their lead.

Inglewood substitute Scott Witschge blazed wide of goal in the 86th minute following good build up play, before redeeming himself two minutes later with a low finish past Jason Saldaris for the hosts’ second.

The winger was unlucky not to further narrow the deficit, flashing a shot just across the face of goal in added time.

Acting Inglewood coach Saul Contera said he was disappointed with his side’s inability to build on their early dominance.

“I think in the first 20 or 25 minutes we were controlling the game and moving the ball quickly,” he said.

“We made some defensive errors and they punished us for it.”

Next week’s Rivalry Round sees Bayswater host old nemesis Perth SC, whilst Inglewood travel to Grindleford Reserve to take on Balcatta.
