AFL South East held its first Annual General Meeting last night, with the motion to expand the commission positions to 7 unanimously approved by the members. As such, two new Commissioners were elected to positions 6 and 7 on the Commission Board - they being Ted Turner and Paddy McKenna.
As a Certified Practicing Accountant and immediate past President of Edithvale Aspendale FNC, Ted Turner (pictured bottom) brings a wealth of club administration and financial management experience to the Commission. In accepting the nomination, Ted described the opportunity to take a leading role in the strategic development of the sport in the region as "compelling". Having spent the majority of his playing and coaching life at the Edithvale Aspendale club, Ted is very much looking forward to taking a different angle to his contribution to the sport.
Paddy McKenna (pictured left) is no stranger to sports administration and governance. Currently the Executive Director of ACC School Sport, Paddy has also been heavily involved with the Beaconsfield JFC and the establishment of the St Francis Xavier OBFC. Paddy recently assisted the Commission with the development of its strategic plan and has also assisted the South East Juniors with policy development and sub-committee engagement. These projects have led to Paddy obtaining a greater understanding of the role of the Commission and subsequently an interest in being involved.
There is no doubt AFL South East will be a stronger and more dynamic commission through the inclusion of Ted and Paddy. The skills, knowledge and experience they bring will provide greater depth to the capabilities of the Commission, which in the end benefots all stakeholders.
