Sixteen Lasers from BSS competed in the 2015 Queensland State Titles, held over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of March at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
Clear skies and fair winds were experienced over the two days with easterlies from 6 to 12 knots allowing all five races to be held as scheduled. A large amount of weed ready to catch in rudders and centreboards meant that the more agile who could clear the weed quickest had a definite advantage over the course.
A large fleet of 34 Full Rigs hotly contested each race with Dan Wright coming a very respectable 9th overall and first in the Apprentice Division (35 - 44 years old). Rod Smith was able to win the first race on the Sunday with 4 BSS sailors in the first 7 places being a highlight. Rod was 2nd in the Masters division and Chris Connell 3rd. Daniel Self, an up and coming RQYS sailor won the overall event beating old hand Brad Taylor into 2nd.
In the Radial fleet of 27 boats, Carissa Bridge was 8th overall and won her age division, relegating her mother Christine to 10th overall. The Radial division was won by Ben Franklin of RQYS. Further down the fleet Jim Sloan narrowly beat Jeremy Creech who was just in front of Peter Craig and Andrew Brown.
There was also 12 boats in the 4.7 division with George Moreton from SYC and Paradise Point winning on countback from Natalie Bridge of RQYS and BSS.
