Getting Started as an Norths Referee

To start your refereeing career at Norths, please follow the following steps:

Find out about our Upcoming Referee Courses and register here.

Fill out the Statement by a Supplier Declaration as it is required for you to be a Norths referee. Also read the Working With Children Check Brochure as Norths is committed to 100% compliance in regard to this, meaning every official over the age of 18 must have a WWCC.

  • For the PAYG Hobby Declaration Form, please tick "The supplier is an individual and has given the payer a written statement to the effect that the supply is either: made in the course or furtherance of an activity done as a private recreational pursuit or hobby.”

Attend the Referee Course to become trained and qualified. At this, you will also be set up on our Online Referee Rostering System “HorizonWebRef”.

Your first piece of refereeing uniform will be a Norths Green Stripe Referee Shirt provided to you by NSBA at your Beginner Referee Course, as you will be a ‘trainee referee'. Once you have been given competency status by our Officials Coordinator, in line with the Basketball Australia Referee Grading Matrix, you will now have the opportunity to referee on your own.

From here you will be given other opportunities to be upgraded and invited to various clinics should you meet Norths Referee competencies and requirements.

For further information on Norths Referee Pathways and Development Program, please contact Norths Officials Coordinator: Brendan Lloyd at brendan.lloyd@nsba.com.au or call the office on 02 9906 7877.

We look forward to seeing you on court soon!
