Round 7 MJFC Match Reports and Awards
Under 9 Black Vs The Basin
We had our first home game today against The Basin. Our two captains today were Thomas (The Terminator) and Liam (The Bear). Both captains played great games and lead their teams well. Thomas also won a medal today for a huge game. Thomas was in everything, shared the ball beautifully, brought his team mates into the game, kicked 4 goals and took a fantastic contested mark. Our other medal winner was Austin (Auzzy) who has improved so much this year and just keeps getting better each week . Chloe (The Pressure Queen) won the milkshake with another great game. Chloe had plenty of it (particularly out of the middle) kicked a great goal and was true to her nickname as she really annoyed her opponent who was clearly frustrated by Chloe's immense pressure. Ayrton (Mr Consistant) won the Zagame's award and has won an award 3 weeks on the trot by being first to the ball. Xavier (Mad Dog) won the Fish & Chips with some great work up forward and a great goal assist. Some honourable mentions to Jack (The Package), Max (The Machine), Michael (The Smiling Assassin), Camden (The Bull) and Brody (The Beast) who all had great games today along with all our players. The opposition coach commented after the game how good our running game was which is something our kids pride themselves on. Another high scoring affair with 29 goals today. Well done Blacks

Under 12B Mitcham 4-4 (28) V Wantirna South 8-5 (53)
We started well kicking the first goal in the first minute of the game, but our effort and application fell away. At times we looked good when we moved the ball quickly and got the ball into space, but silly mistakes, skill errors and a lack of applying footy smarts to what needed to happen proved costly. Inconsistent effort is not good enough. But there are good signs to build from and we need to take these learnings and improve if we are to match it with the better teams.
Best Players: LeBron Gencarelli, Jack Ewison, Will Aujard, Patrik Nemsow, Mark Assaad, Gabriel Gonzalez
Goals: Jack Ewison, Noah Bayer, Matthew Burkitt, Gabriel Gonzalez
Under 13 A Mitcham 15-10 (100) v Heathmont 2-1 (13)
The boys started well against Heathmont. We had a sizable lead at half time which gave the the boys a false sense of entitlement that their work was done for the day. To Heathmont's credit they jammed our forward half, causing a grinding second half. Our spread from the contest needs some work, we won the stoppages and contested ground ball which was pleasing from a coaching view. As we turn to the second half of the season our boys are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead , especially next round against North Ringwood. It should be a terrific game!

Under 16 Girls
Well done to Steph and Georgia on playing 50 games!
Under 17D Mitcham 9-10 (64) South Croydon 3-2 (20)
Off the back of a good win last week the group was challenged to put together consistent performances. Having already played South Croydon we knew a little of what to expect, but with 10 outs across the squad and some much needed and appreciated fill ins we had a game on our hands. After an early arm wrestle we pulled away proving too strong. The group has now put together a really solid month of football improving our record to 4-3 setting ourselves up as a genuine finals contender in the back half of the season.
