Mitcham under 8 Black
Mitcham V East Burwood Rams (Koonung Reserve)
Summary: A great match today with Mitcham playing magnificent team footy once again. They kept the opposition nearly goaless and are still improving every week as they learn their craft. Standouts today were our Encouragement award winner Camden Walters who dominated the first half. Cam copped a decent footy to the face with plenty of claret but came back on to continue dominating and received best on ground from the opposition as well. Our player of the week was Chloe Linnett who never stops encouraging and bringing others into the game. She also had plenty of the ball which she used well and took a great mark. Austin Loring was our team captain today and lead from the front. Jake (the extractor) McConnell was magnificent again today. Max Lazarus and Thomas Coulsen worked well together and they both hit the scoreboard. Brody Wolst had leather poisoning when he went in the middle. Ethen Reed worked hard and kicked a nice goal. Michael Bamford had a big second half and did some great work and Daniel Sagwan was unlucky up forward but continued to work hard and kicked a great goal. The team are looking forward to playing their teammates Mitcham Yellow next week

Lightning Premiership
Summary: Today the Mitcham U9 Yellow battled hard in four tough games against Mooroolbark Green, Blackburn Black, Lysterfield Teal and Wantirna South Green. We sarted the day well with a win against Moroolbark and then a 1 point victory over Blackburn. Our third game was a tight contest going down by just 3 points. In our fourth game we went down by 2 goals against a much taller opposition. Being undermanned for the whole day with no bench is a big ask and our boys stood up to the challenge extremely well. Well done boys, your coach is very proud. The games were was played in good conditions our boys maintained the intensity and desire for the four games. A special mention to Iggy, Zac M, Thomas M, Heath and Jack for helping out in our first two games.
Best Players: Team Effort

Lightning Premiership
Summary: Across the day there were strong displays of teamwork, courage, determination and resilience. But the most pleasing aspect of the day was the improvement shown from game 1-4. The boys willingness to listen to feedback and learn from it will hold them in good stead in the coming weeks. Go Tigers.
Best Players: Good Team Effort
Goals: Goals were hard to come by, scoring our first 6 pointer in the third game. The celebration was worth the wait.

Mitcham V Blackburn (Koonung Reserve)
Summary: The mighty Mitcham Black played Blackburn Red in the round three clash. This week’s focus was on team football and the enjoyment of the game , we decided as a coaching panel after a long day at the lighting cup and tons of instructions from Matt and I that we would keep it pretty simple with a clear message on team football. The boys to their credit embraced this and all got involved from the start, they had voice they handballed well and look to use whoever was in the best position throughout the day. The pleasing thing on the weekend was to see some of the quieter kids get more involved, Angus who took out the medal as best player was marking the ball up forward and really lifted his work rate around the ground to become a strong focal point for us. Joel played a great game and had great attacked on the football and his ground ball work was fantastic, Joel has been working hard to improve and to see the rewards coming his way is very pleasing. (Joel remember run) Harley who I have been watching through his basketball and now football is continuing to improve all the time he intensely takes in whatever instructions I give him and is always happy for his team mates when they do something well constantly giving pats on the back to his team mates. If all the parents could sit down with the boys this week and encourage them as everyone one of them played their part. Matt work the team board to perfection and the boys were given plenty of time in different positions but most pleasing thing was that whenever they moved to a new position, the players are starting to grasp what is required. We will focus on building the boys’ confidence this week, working in traffic and continue their growth at tackling. Go Tigers!

Mitcham Tigers V Vermont Eagles (Walker Park)
Summary: With both teams coming of a successful Lightning Premiership last week, we knew we were coming up against a pretty good opposition. They didn't really allow us to play our free flowing brand of football, with some really good tackling. We probably need to concentrate a little more on picking up our opposition players and not kicking across goals when in the back line. Our boys battled out the game right to the end, but unfortunately fell a bit short today to a better team on the day. Let's regroup and come out firing against Lysterfield Teal next week.
Best Players: Encouragement Medal - Tobias MorseTwo Brother Café Award - Lorenze Klinger-Horsburgh McDonalds Award - Leeroy Baker
Goals: Charlie Wilson, Josh Dakic
Mitcham under 10 Girls
Mitcham V Heathmont (Koonung Reserve)
Summary:After having a week off with a bye the girls were exited to run out onto the ground for our first home game with their new teammates. Our two captains for the round Anna and Heidi encouraged the girls and making everyone feel safe on the ground. The game was very even and exiting. Everyone had a fair go and the new girls put their best foot forward.

Mitcham Yellow 7.3-45 V Montrose 1.4-10 (Walker Park)
Summary:Our first home game for the season on Walker Park and the boys were fired up to get 2 wins in a row. We played some really accountable and team oriented footy for 3 and a half quarters where the boys had great intent to attack the ball. We let a late goal in with about 30 seconds to go, but a pretty complete game by the boys today.
Best Players: LeBron Gencarelli, Gabriel Gonzalez, James Wilson, Max Irvine, Patrik Nemsow, Matthew Burkitt

Mitcham Black 0.0.0 V Bayswater 5.5.35 (Bayswater Junior Oval)
Summary: The boys had a tough day at Bayswater in round 3 as they were out hunted around the contest in the first half by a strong and physical Bayswater side. Some terrific efforts in defence from Toby De Bruyn, Steve Stansfield and Cooper Edwards limited the damage but at half time we still trailed by 29 points and were struggling to impact the contest. To their credit the boys picked themselves up at half time and lifted their efforts, keeping Bayswater to just one score in the second half. Tong and Ryan were strong at the contest and gathered plenty of the ball, while Jaylen competed tirelessly all day in ruck, along with Alex and Tyson who ran hard both ways getting plenty of the ball and heaping on the pressure. In the end a 35 point loss but the boys can take some pride in holding a strong side at bay in the second half and not letting the score blow out.
Best Players: Jaylen Allen, Cooper Edwards, Tong Atak, Ryan McConnell, Alex Parigi, Tyson Darmody
Mitcham under 12 Girls
Mitcham 8.6-54 v Montrose 0.0-0
Summary: On Sunday the girls ventured up to Montrose and weren't sure what to expect. We started the game off fast and with high intensity, out tackling and manning up was extremely good which allowed us to get two quick goals. The rest of the game was full of nonstop effort from every girl and we had a number of goal kickers including Grace Goldsmith kicking her very first goal, congratulations! Big well done to Jess for her incredible tackling which came out of nowhere but was awesome to watch. We dominated in the ruck and credit to Alessia and Lauren for being perfect rovers to our ruck Taya. Big shout out to Matilda Ridgeway for kicking 3 goals and to our 5 goal kickers. It was a great game, and good to get a win for the girls. Well done!

Glen Waverley 3.0.18 V Mitcham 12.8.80 (Central Reserve)
Summary: The boys were greeted with the biggest ground they have played on which suited our outside run and carry. The Hawks are possibly the best defensive team we have played, they made it a very hard slog. In the 2nd half of the game it opened up and we dominated the clearances, our outside run and speed was too much for the Hawks to deal with. Another small step, we still have plenty of hard work ahead.
Best Players: Hudson, Peter, Aiden, Luke F, Hamish, Rory, Tynan, Jordan
Goals: Peter 3, Luke F 2, Jack 2, Hamish 1, Luca 1, Seb 1, Jordan 1, Hudson 1

Mitcham 6.10.46 V Forest Hill 4.5.29 (Koonung Reserve)
Summary: Koonung reserve is where we took on Forest Hill. An arm wrestle in the first half with our undisciplined defensive pressure keeping our opponents in the game. With a good look at what we didn't do early & what we had to for the W, ensured the win.
Best Players: Lachlan C. Josh J. Jok C

Mitcham 12.16-88 v Montrose 1.0-6 (Walker Park)
Summary: Mitcham playing Montrose at home, Walker Park and the girls have been waiting for this, another fantastic week on the track, and the young Tiger girls came to play.
This week we decided to play the girls in several positions. As a coach seeing the girls smiling laughing joking but most importantly caring for each other puts a smile on my face.
Each week we are learning and understanding the game. Well done team and parents!

Mitcham 6.8.44 v Blackburn 15.7.97 (Walker Park)
Summary: Round 3 saw us play our first game at home this season taking on Blackburn. We started off well with some good ruckwork from Damo and our mids kept driving the ball forward. Mason, Jasper and JP were all attacking the ball well but unfortunately we couldn’t make the most of our scoring opportunities and went into quarter time 3 goals down. We were determined to keep the pressure on Blackburn in the second quarter and Jack, Tonnam and Connor worked tirelessly in the midfield to give us every opportunity going forward. We were a bit fumbly though and didn’t execute our skills properly which saw us go into halftime down by 4 goals. The third quarter was a turning point in the game and Blackburn showed their class with the ball and their willingness to run in numbers. This set up an opportunity for the boys to show some fight in the last quarter, which they did. Connor continued to take the game on and give us a few opportunities to score. James stood up by putting his head over the footy, taking a few good marks and kicking a couple of goals. Even though we won the quarter which is what I asked of the boys, it was too little too late and we weren’t able to overcome Blackburn. Due to a bye last round, which was the Anzac Day round, we weren’t able to participate in the usual game day ceremonies. We still wanted to reward two boys who displayed the qualities of the Anzacs, such as courage, willingness to push on and play in the right spirit. Those boys today were Connor and James and should be proud of the way that they played. They fought hard against the good opposition and were able to walk away saying they gave their all, just as the Anzacs did. Well done to Jack as well for winning our new sponsor award from Two Brothers Café in Mitcham. Goal kickers: James 3, Jack 2,

Mitcham 13.11.89 v Montrose 11.15.81 (Montrose Rec. Reserve)
Summary:After a bye last week and the usual coaching staff away, the boys came out playing a standard of football they can be proud of. Everyone contributed to an emotional win. Thanks to Paul Miller, Sam Howell and Brett Henderson for coaching the boys on Sunday while our coaching staff were away. The end result was close which goes to show the value of a good start, as Montrose started to come home in the 4th quarter. This will be an area of growth for us as a team.
Best Players: Ethan Wu & Soloman Barnes
Goals: Wu (5) Drake (2) Miller (2) Livermore (2) Sullivan (1) Ross (1)

Mitcham v Forest Hill (Koonung Reserve)
Summary:The under 16 girls played Forest Hill this week in a home game at Koonung Reserve. The team were looking forward to an improved showing after last week and they certainly didn’t disappoint. The tackling pressure and ability to try to take the game on was evident especially in the second half of the game where we outscored Forest Hill. This game sets the standard for what we want to achieve for the season. Thanks to the under 14 girls in Steph and Lily for filling in for us and also to Meg for playing while injured. Also a big thanks to Forest Hill for their help with some extra players.
Best Players:Hayley, Riley Georgia H and Emily who played a great game especially in defence.
