Under 8 Black by Eddy Mitchell (Coach)
Round 6 and playing an undermanned South Croydon great sportsmanship was displayed by Jack, Ollie, Oscar and Xavier all chipping in and helping out the opposition. The boys started off well and goals were coming thick and fast with everyone wanting to get a peace of the action. Zac C was a running machine and had more bounces then the Harlem Globetrotters while Alex was again on fire and Coby's marking prowess was one to see. Jack and Cody were giving us first use in the ruck and Iggy was standing strong in defence. Ollie's goal was followed up with a standout celebration and Dillon’s inside handballs were great. A more team-oriented game was the focus throughout with the boys sharing the ball and looking out for one another. The highlight was a great passage of play by Coby, Connor, Ollie and Iggy teaming up by hand and foot. Zac M and Tom finished off the hard work by kicking a couple each while Oscar took a great grab and goal as well. Once again a great team game by all.
Goals: Alex 3, Zac M 2, Tom 2, Ollie, Oscar, Jack, Coby.
Medal winner: Oscar

A hard fought game for our young Tigers this week. Conditions were excellent and both teams chose to play the full ground. For the first time this year we had a full team. Boys ran all day and there were some excellent passages of play. Our ruck was exceptional and boys are starting to think more strategically when they have the ball in both halves of the ground. This week the Tiger Medal was awarded to Lewis who played an awesome game in the forward line and on the wing taking some great marks and sending the ball forward. Chris who is in his first year of footy won the encouragement award from the Two Brothers. Chris’s skills and confidence are improving weekly and he always gives his all for the team. Today he played well and attacked the ball hard. The second award went to Joel, who dominated the centre in the last quarter worrying our opposition into tagging him; his work in the middle was influential and gave us great drive into the forward line. Was a great team effort from the boys!

Rnd 6 saw U9 Yellow take on Vermont Purple away from home in what was a two-goal wind. Our Captain today Javier Petrilli won to chose to kick with the wind, which was a great decision. It was a tough first quarter against a quality and tall opposition. We saw a fair bit of run in the first quarter with lots of team play with run and handball, which created many scoring opportunities in the first quarter. The second and third quarters our run stopped with many players not going in and being first to the ball. This evened the match up and let Vermont back in the game and the momentum swung back in their favour. The last quarter we had had many players get back into the game and the run started again, but still to many players not running hard enough to get clear of the packs and push the ball forward. Kicking into the wind was tough and goals did not come easy, but again when we worked as a team and ran hard the goals came. Our next game against Vermont will be much more improved, as our players now understand what it takes to play against a quality team and the effort that needs to be put in through the whole game. Our Two Brother Cafe awards today went to our Captain Javier Petrilli for a great start to the game and finish in the last quarter with lots fast running and drive at the ball and Oscar Tribolet. When Oscar was running and concreting on the game he is very hard to beat, as he gets to the ball first. Doing this all game next will see him have an even better game. Our Mitcham JFC medal winner went to Daniel Grace. Dan did not stop trying all game. He was under packs, running past for the handball and kicking well all game. His use of the ball out of the backline and in the middle was at its best this week and saw a great handball and goal to a teammate in the forward line, which created a goal for his team. Well done Dan on a great game this week and a great season so far. As always there were other standout players that had some great plays and influence on the game and put their hand up when it counted to kick a goal or defend with a smother. Well to these guys and well done to all for having a go. We were short a few players this week with illness and injury, so will be great to have them back next week.

Mitcham Black under 10 went down the road to play South Croydon. In what was the best weather condition so far this year. Captain for the week was Will who started in the middle, Will's game improved as the match went on. In a tightly fought contest where the pressure was intense all the tigers lifted to hold firm. Great games LeBron, Jacob, Jesse, Sean and Liam just to name a few. All the boys played their role and started to hold position, which South Croydon could not break. A much better game from all the boys.

In our second game at the tiger den, we took on a tall and talented Norwood team in great conditions with Tyson Darmody as our skipper. While we were hard at the ball, we again fell into bad habits of kick chasing and playing with little accountability in the first half. After a reset at half time, we came out and played a really good second half. Heath Fox was pivotal around the ball and charged forward with his blistering pace. Mason was again a powerhouse in the ruck and Jimmy and Jack kicked 3 second half goals between them. Steve, Alex, Angus, Dillon, Jackson, Daniel and Henry also had great games that proved crucial to our strong second half.

Today the Under 11’s played their sixth round match against Blackburn at Morton Park. The Tigers turned it on for the first three quarters today kicking 7 goals to 1. In the fourth quarter it looked as though the boys had decided that they had had enough, allowing Blackburn to come back into the game by letting 3 goals and 1 behind to be added to the Blackburn tally. Hopefully next week we can put in a four-quarter performance against The Basin.
Goals: Hamish 3, Ryan O 2, Sam and Tynan
Best Players: Hudson, Lachlan, Hamish, Luke F and Felix.
Final Score: Mitcham 7.4.46 d Blackburn 4.2.26

The boys learnt an important footy lesson today. You can't leave it to the last quarter to be 1st at it. None the less, an impressive 4th quarter where we kicked 4.5 and kept the opposition scoreless wasn't enough.
Best: Liam, Matty, Charlie W
Final Score: East Ringwood 8.5.53 d Mitcham 5.5.35
Under 12 Girls by Ruby Schneider (Coach)
Today the girls took on Donvale and we knew that it was going to be a hard game to win. The day started off pretty well with 2 goals being kicked in the first quarter, which is sometimes unknown for us! Well done to Lucy O and Hannah! The rest of the game was very challenging as Donvale moved the ball extremely well and were great at building a wall making it difficult for us to get it into the forward line however the great defensive pressure and tackling by Meg and Lauren gave us great opportunities to get it down our end. Also would like to mention the double duo of Mathilda and Stella Anderson who played well the whole day and have improved out of sight. The last quarter was extremely stressful as we were only up by two points and Donvale were catching up in points and then were lucky enough to score a goal making it even more stressful if that was possible. In the last minutes the girls fought for the ball, laying as many tackles as they could, trying to get it out at stoppages and then bang! All of a sudden Matilda Ridgeway came running out of the pack into open goal with 5 seconds left on the clock, all the parents were screaming telling her to go and then she kicked a goal right through the middle, over the umpires head!!!! Everyone was so excited no one heard the siren. The girls were so excited, it was a great game of football and I couldn't be more proud of how far they have come. Maybe I should make them run extra laps every week. Go Tiges!!!
Final Score: Mitcham 3.2.20 d Donvale 2.6.18

Well done to Aiden and Jordan for their contribution today. We appreciate you stepping in last minute and having an impact in our game. Unfortunately for the second week in a row, we had the game won before we played it. Wantirna South were more desperate to win a game of footy. We can make excuses, but at the end of the day, the opposition wanted the ball, and the win, more than us. Having said this, it is only our second loss for the year. As I mentioned after the game, if we are to play well, we need to train well. When the boys come to training lets focus for the hour, train well, and look forward to putting your skills you have been taught into the game. On a positive note, two weeks running, Raph and Zac have played really well. They constantly go hard for the footy and more often than not, win the ball when they go for it. It is really pleasing seeing the not so dominant players hold their own when its their turn to go for the ball. A special mention the midfielders, Jack, Nathan, Dan N and Luca for tirelessly running on the ball all day and trying their heart out.
Goal kickers Aiden 2, Jordan 1, Jack 1, Nathan 1.
Final score Wantirna South 7 9 51 d Mitcham 5 9 39

The Under 14 girls played Belgrave at Walker Park. This was an important game for the team to get our season back on track. Right from the opening bounce the midfield had the ball in our forward line where we worked hard to retain the ball. While we managed to control the game by having the ball in our forward line for most of the first half we were finding it hard to score. After half time the flood gates seemed to open up more for us with Mitcham outscoring Belgrave 39 to 8 due mainly to the backline repelling many attacks and the team starting to understand about putting themselves in the right spot to win the ball and to keep the ball in our forward line. The whole team can be extremely satisfied in their efforts with every player contributing to the victory by 35 points.
Better players: Maddy, Riley, Marissa, Olivia and Jazmyn
Under 15 by John Adcroft (Coach)
The boys showed us in the first quarter what potential they have. The intensity and pure desire to win the contest was an absolute delight to watch. I think the boys got a little over excited with having a 3-goal lead at the break and they took their foot off the gas. A better side definitely did not beat us - they beat an underperforming great side. Next week lads, four quarters of what we did in the first quarter and lets see what happens…
Best on Ground - Michael B (great to have you back!!)
Thanks to Mick for filling in as Boundary Ump and Peter Walsh as Ass Coach.
