GREEN EARNS SELECTION FOR PACIFIC RIM TITLES IN NEW ZEALAND

REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS: Bianca Green will play for the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup under-15 women’s squad at the 2013 Pacific Rim Championships in New Zealand over Easter.

BASKETBALL

At almost 180 centimetres tall there is little wonder that 12-year-old Bianca Green has taken a liking to basketball.

But it takes a little more than height to make it in the game and recently the Ashtonfield resident has been impressing selectors across the country.

So much so that Green was picked to play for the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup under-15 women’s squad at the 2013 Pacific Rim Championships in New Zealand over Easter.

“I’m really excited,” Green said.

“It is my first overseas trip for basketball.”

After flying out today Green will join her teammates for training before playing five round matches and play-offs between tomorrow and Monday at North Shore Events Centre in Auckland.

Outside of having her first taste of international competition Green said she was looking forward to combining with a few familiar faces.

“There are a couple of girls from my NSW Country team that are going and another friend of mine from Dubbo,” she said.

“So it will be fun to be able to play with them again.”

The year 7 student at Hunter Valley Grammar School was picked in the squad following her performances for NSW Country at the 2013 Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup held in Albury and Wodonga in January.

And upon her return from across the Tasman she will endeavour to retain her position in the squad through representing the Maitland Mustangs under-14 girls’ division one in the Country Premier League and further training camps to be held at Maitland Federation Centre later in the year.
