HUNGRY ON OUR STREETS

A dramatic increase in the number of people who cannot afford to feed themselves has put a strain on Maitland Neighbourhood Centre’s services.
The centre is usually quiet during the school holidays but the past two weeks has been chaotic with demand for their services continuing yesterday.
Community workers have been run off their feet. Twenty-five people asked for assistance within one-and-a-half hours on Thursday, about 15 homeless people dropped in for help last week, and emergency relief appointments are fully booked for the next week.
Their Justice of the Peace service has also quadrupled.
On top of this their food donations pantry has been completely depleted, despite spending a few hundred dollars to re-stock.
Maitland Basketball would like to help out, we will have some boxes here at the stadium and would like everybody to donate at least one useful food item for this worthy charity drive.
Items required are the bare essentials like, Long-life milk, cereal, jams and spreads, tea, coffee, noddles, pasta, pasta sauces, spagetti, baked beans, tinned soups, Tinned tuna , Tinned chicken . Please please get on board and help us to make a difference out there in our community
