SCOTT MCGREGOR HITS THE BASKET TO TIE THE GAME WITH .7 SECONDS LEFT ON THE CLOCK

Scott McGregor is making buzzer-beaters into an art form.

The 35-year old Maitland Mustangs foward hit a shot with .7 seconds remaining to win his teams elimination final 87-86 over the Parramtta Wildcats on Saturday night.

The victory advances them into the semi-final at Newcastle on Saturday. McGregor's clutch shot looked like any other he had hit this year, but had a crucial consequence. It not only levelled the scores at 86 all but the former Newcastle Falcons big man was fouled in the action of shooting and went to the line for one free throw.

As the 100+ Mustangs fans who travelled to Parramatta's Auburn Basketball Centre to Watch Maitland in the first Waratah ABL league elimination fell silent, McGregor dribbled the ball a few times and then took aim. Mustangs coach Luke Boyle said his team couldn't have gotten across the line without the huge numbers of supporters that travelled to the stadium. " We couldn't have done it without all the support we recieved," he said. "When the bus showed up full of Maitland supporters we knew we were in with a good show. Parramatta is usually one of the toughest road trips but it was like a home game. In true Maitland fashion 100+ people ran on the court at the end of the game to celebrate with us

The Mustangs now head to the finals weekend in Newcastle to face Sydney Comets in the semi-final on Saturday.
