Job Opportunity: Netball Wellington Centre Emerging Talent Officer

Netball is New Zealand’s leading female sport at both the community and international level. The sport has grown significantly over the past 10 years and as a Centre we want to ensure we are keeping up with supporting this growth.

We are looking to employ an Emerging Talent Officer in a permanent part time position (with the opportunity to grow the role) reporting to the General Manager. This role is part of a small team but requires strong relationships with a wider team within Netball Central Zone, Regional Sporting NDOs, HPSN and Netball NZ. The role will include some early mornings, early evenings and weekend work at times.

The first few months of this role will involve analyzing what we have in place, planning and collaboration with our NDO and NDC, Netball Central Zone and Netball New Zealand so we can enhance current programmes and develop new programmes to ensure alignment of player and coach emerging talent pathways. Following this planning and development phase the role will then move into the management of these pathways and programmes, and keeping abreast of trends and tools that the Centre can look to introduce in support of achieving successes on and off the court.

The main responsibilities of the role are:
Representative Programme Leader – enhancing and ongoing development of the various programmes to ensure opportunities for players and coaches within the Centre are optimized, working closely with the coaches and management of the various representative teams to meet agreed performance goals. There will be support around this programme by NDO and NDC.

Emerging Talent development – identifies talent within the Centre and ensures we have the programmes in place to support the identified people to be considered for the right pathway at the right time. These programmes need to be aligned to the Netball Central Zone and Netball New Zealand pathways so that we have homegrown players and coaches identified and supported to achieve short and long terms goals.

Player, coach and management development – Support the NDO and NDC in organisation of player, coaching and management development so they align to the emerging talent programmes.

Tournaments – ensure adequate and appropriate tournaments are considered for all representative teams.

The key skills and experience you will need are:

  • Experience in working within the emerging talent framework with a sound understanding of the NNZ player and coaching pathway
  • Experience and/or in-depth knowledge of netball
  • Understanding of a representative structure and supporting tournament needs
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think wide and creative so that the programmes are fresh and inviting
  • Have a can do attitude and be open to dig in when help is needed to the wider team

This is a new role for the centre and the right person can put their stamp on this by bringing new ideas and initiatives, excitement, passion and drive that can support the 3rd biggest centre achieve bigger and better things, for a wider group of players and coaches.

Applications should be made electronically to gm@netballcentral.co.nz by Friday 30 June 2017. All applications will be treated in confidence and must include a CV and a covering letter. If you require any further information please call Sue Geale for a confidential discussion on 027 294 9050
