BLGFA 2020 Season Update

The BLGFA are pleased to announce that as a result of a meeting held with the Club presidents on Tuesday 16 June 2020, a decision has been made to commence the 2020 season as of Saturday 18th July.  The revised program will be nine rounds culminating in a two-week finals series involving the top three teams with the Grand Final scheduled for Saturday 26th September.  We look forward to working with the Clubs to re-engage as many of our community as possible back into football, whilst ensuring compliance with all of the COVID safe directions.   The Board would like to thank the Presidents and committee members of all nine clubs and the BLG Umpires Association for their ongoing work and commitment during this very challenging time.

 2020 Umpire coach appointments

It is with great pleasure that the Board announces the appointment of Mr Mark Miels into the position of Senior Umpire Coach for 2020..  Mark has extensive experience with the role having spent the past 6 years as the umpire coordinator for the KNTFL (2013-2019).  He is highly regarded for his skills and abilities, not just as a senior umpire with over 600 A-Grade games under his belt, but also for his demonstrated leadership, mentoring and development of his umpiring team.  Some of you may remember Mark as an umpire from 1983 to 2003 (including a 4 year stint with the SANFL), before his employment as a school teacher took him to the KNTFL in 2004 where he has consistently umpired since.   In January Mark returns to take up a teaching position in Adelaide and is keen to take the reins as the senior umpire coach within the BLG.  The Board of Directors welcome Mark and his family back to the BLG and look forward to working with him next year.

Further, the Board congratulates Ryan Prentice on his appointment as the Junior Umpire Coach for 2020.  Ryan has been an umpire with the BLGFA for over 4 years and has proven himself to be a quality umpire, doing all the right things to build his experience and skills.  He has umpired with the SANFL umpire academy in 2019 and is looking to impart some of that knowledge into our developing umpires.   Whilst Ryan is still young, his dedication has seen him quickly rise through the ranks to umpire all grades, as well as the BLGW and representative games.  With the support of the current umpiring panel, the Board is confident that Ryan will do a fantastic job.
