SIMPLIFIED RULES OF 2TOUCH
Base idea of the game: Score touchdowns when in possession of the ball.
Method: Running with and/or passing the ball into the touchdown zone to then be grounded. When opposition have ball, stop your opposition from scoring touchdowns.
Method: Making touches on the person with the ball, forcing errors, and intercepting passes before they ground the ball in the touchdown zone.
Base rules: 4 or 5 players per team, pending on competition rules (Mixed ratio pending too) Game begins with a team (toss winners) taking a ‘tap ball’ in their tap start zone Defense must be at least 2 meters from the person who taps the ball UNTIL she/he passes, begins to take more than 2 steps with the ball, or 2 seconds lapses. Team with the ball is allowed to pass and run with the ball in any direction Team with the ball is allowed to be touched, while in possession of the ball, twice. A touch is when any defensive player touches a player with the ball in possession. After being touched while you have the ball in possession, you must restart game with a ‘tap ball’ within 2 meters of where the touch was affected or where the referee states. After the team with the ball has been touched the second time, possession will be handed to the defensive team. The defensive team taps the ball and becomes the attacking team The ball must be passed at least twice from any restart (tap ball) before being able to score a touchdown To score a touchdown, the player with the ball must be standing with both feet in touchdown zone before being touched. OR alternative rule (pending on safety factor), ball must be grounded (with downward pressure and control) in the touchdown zone before being touched Ball changes possession and restarts with a ‘tap ball’ after every: Touchdown, Drop ball, Touch and pass, Second team touch, out of bounds, and any Penalty offense. Base game time frame is 6 minute quarters with a 1 minute break between quarters. Time may vary pending on competition. Change direction and restart tap after every quarter One point will be given for every touchdown. Scoring system may vary pending on competition Attackers are not allowed to enter the Touchdown zone until 2 passes have been made 1 Scoring: A touchdown will be awarded when a player places the ball on or in between the touchdown zone lines prior to being touched. A touchdown will be worth one point (unless changed by organizer). 2 Substitution Zone: Teams may interchange players at any time. Players coming on to the field may not do so until the player being replaced has made contact in the substitution zone. Substitutions must occur within the appropriate team’s substitution zone. 3 Possession: A change of possession shall occur:– * After the 2nd touch. * After an incorrect ‘tap’ (refer No. 7). * When ball goes to ground. * When a touchdown occurs. * When there is a touch and pass. * When the ball goes out of bounds (if applicable). * When a player enters the touchdown zone before ‘open’ is called * Whenever the referee indicates. Play is restarted with a ‘tap’ at a change of possession. 4 Passing: A player may pass, flick, knock, throw or otherwise deliver the ball to any player in the attacking team. Passing in any direction is permitted. 5 The Tap: The tap is taken by placing the ball on the ground on the mark, releasing from both hands, tapping the ball with the foot a distance of not more than one metre and retrieving it cleanly. Any player from the attacking team may take the tap. 6 The Penalty: A player/team will be penalised when they infringe particular rules. When a player/team is penalized the opposing team shall restart play with a tap ball. 8 The Touch: Players from both teams are permitted to initiate the touch. A touch constitutes contact with any part of the body, ball, clothing or hair. A minimum of force is to be used at all times. The team in possession is entitled to 2 touches. 9 Touch and Pass: A player is not to pass the ball after a touch has been made. 10 Sideline: If a player with the ball touches or crosses the sideline s/he is deemed to be out of play and a change of possession occurs. Play restarts with a ‘tap’ up to 2 metres in from where the player went out. If a touch is made before player goes out, then the touch counts. 13 Obstruction: Players of the attacking team are not to obstruct defending players from attempting to affect a touch. Defending players are not to obstruct/interfere with attacking players supporting the ball carrier. 14 The Field of Play: The field is 30m long (end-line to end-line) and 15m wide. Substitution boxes measuring 10m will be placed on one side of court/field. Touchdown zone will be in field of the end-line. 15 Team Composition: A team may consist of up to 10 registered players. A maximum of 5 are allowed on the field at any one time. A minimum of 3 is required to play. 16 The Toss: The captain winning the toss shall receive possession of the ball and a choice of direction. The Referee will supervise the toss. 17 Duration: The game shall be 6-7 minute quarters with a 1-2 minute break between quarters. Associations may alter the duration of games to suit their particular requirements. 18 Extra Time and the Drop Off: When a match is drawn and a single winner is required, extra time is played and teams drop off players every two minutes. The first team to score a Touchdown wins the match once both teams have had possession. 19 Player Attire: All team members must be correctly attired in team uniforms. Footwear with non-marking soles for court must be worn. Footwear requirements will vary due to location. Bare feet, spikes and footwear with screw-in studs are not permitted. Players are not to wear any item of jewellery that might be dangerous. 20 The Referee: The referee is the sole judge on matters of fact and is required to adjudicate on the rules of the game during play. The referee may impose any sanction necessary to control the game. All officials, players and coaches involved in the game are under the control of the referee. 21 Foul Play will NOT be tolerated: Any foul play (the referee being the sole judge) will result in the offending player being penalized, sent to the sin bin for up to 5 minutes, or being sent from the field for the remainder of the game, depending on the severity of the offence. 22 Mixed Teams: A mixed team can be made up of any ratio of male/female players. The team is not permitted to field more than four male players or not less than one male player at any time. 22 Tap near the touchdown zone: A player does not have to wait 2 seconds or go 2 metres back if the ball is played within 2 metres of the touchdown zone. If a player gets touched in the touchdown zone or near the zone it is preferable that they re-start the tap just beyond 2 metres from the zone. Referee calls One short whistle: Commences the game or re-starts game after a Touchdown One long whistle blow; signifies a Touchdown Two quick short whistle blows : The referee requires the player’s attention due to an infringement has occurred or the referee needs to voice a call Touches Touch One: The referee will call ‘ONE’ and raise one finger once the first touch has been made Touch Two: The referee will blow, two quick short, whistles and then raise two fingers once the second touch has been made Open The referee will call ‘OPEN’ once two passes have been made or an intercept has occurred. Players are now allowed in the Touchdown zone until the next stoppage. Live The referee will call ‘LIVE’ if the player who taps the ball (after a re-start) takes more than 2 steps or holds the ball longer than 2 seconds. Once this is called defense are then able to make the Touch on that player. Off-side The referee will blow, two quick short, whistles and then call ‘OFFSIDE” if a player enters the touchdown zone before ‘open’ is called Some other words that a referee may call: Ground ball : ball has touched the ground before being controlled.
