Run towards finals halted by Lions, VulturesTHE NT Thunder's historic foray into Queensland football is over with the Michael McLean-coached side missing out on a finals spot despite winning their last game at the weekend.
The sixth-placed Thunder went into Saturday's game equal on premiership points with Mt Gravatt (4th) and Brisbane Lions (5th) with mere percentage separating them. The NT side needed a massive win over Aspley while hoping beyond hope that the Vultures or Lions would stumble.
The Thunder upheld their end of the bargain by defeating the Hornets by 58 points at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. But it was not enough as Brisbane thumped the winless Western Magpies by 153 points and Mt Gravatt defeated Broadbeach, also by 58 points.
It brings to an end an eventful season for the newcomers to Queensland football.
The team has had a high Indigenous participation rate, with players from south-west WA, the Kimberley, Central Australia, Darwin and even Brisbane donning the Northern Territory's iconic black, white and ochre colours.
