Swans veteran one of 10 to be inducted by the AFL
SYDNEY veteran Michael O'Loughlin will receive one of 10 AFL life memberships for his services to football.
Footballers who have played 300 senior games, including those outside the premiership season -- NAB Cup, All-Stars, State of Origin, etc -- receive the honour.
The Swans' 205 premiership player O'Loughlin has played 306 senior games (see full stats below). He is one of four current players and 10 individuals to be acknowledged by the AFL. He is a two-time All-Australian, club fairest-and-best winner and member of the Indigenous Team of the Century.
AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou yesterday said the Commission congratulates the players on their induction.
"Life membership of the sport you have served is the ultimate acknowledgement by everyone in the game of your efforts," Demetriou said.
"Our new inductees are extremely deserving and have done so much in the game to make our sport as strong as it is."
The inductees will be formally acknowledged on the eve of the 2009 AFL premiership season.
