OVERVIEW:

This program aims to increase awareness around common mental health issues, focusing on depression and anxiety. It has been designed around the mental health first aid model and provides participants with the skills and confidence to identify people at risk and assist them to find appropriate help. It also provides participants with the confidence to seek help if they are struggling with a mental illness.


LEARNING OUTCOMES:

•Understand the challenges and pressures of adolescence;
•Understand what is mental health and mental illness;
•Understand the facts around mental illness;
•Able to identify the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression;
•Able to recognise the link between the pressures of adolescence and mental illness;
•Understand the importance of early intervention;
•Understand the link between mental illness and suicidal thoughts and the signs that someone may be thinking about suicide;
•Understand how to maintain good mental health; and
•Understand what you can do if you think someone needs, or you need help.
