Team Nomination/Registration Fee & BWA Player Affiliation

Team Registration/Nomination Fee - $352.50 per team.

To nominate for the upcoming season, teams will need to pay $52.50 upfront as part of this online registration process.

Teams will then have to pay the remaining $300 team registration fee by the end of the fourth round of the season. An invoice will be sent to teams prior to the season starting.

Players will need to have a current Basketball WA (BWA) individual player affiliation licence to be able to play games at KDBA. More information on this fee can be found here or by contacting Basketball WA directly.

Selecting Competitions & Regrading

Please select your competition/division carefully as once competitions have started, there will be no changing of competitions/divisions.

It is suggested that teams that consist largely of players who have not played before or who have limited playing experience should nominate in the lowest division for an age group (e.g. division 2 for girls competitions and division 3 for boys competitions). Teams who are experienced or have WABL level players should play in the top divisions for their age group (e.g. division 1 for girls and division 1 or 2 for boys competition).

Please note that if there are not enough teams for a competition/division to be considered viable by the Association, teams may be placed in another competition/division at the discretion of the Association.

Limited regrading will be done after round 4 of competitions. In general, teams who have won every game by large amounts will be regraded up to a higher division. Teams who have lost every game by large amounts may be regraded down a division. Other factors including teams played and winning/losing margins will be taken into consideration. Regrading is at the discretion of the Association and once done, there will be no further regrading for the season unless deemed an extraordinary circumstance by the Local Association.

Rising Suns Development League (Formerly Little Ballers)

The Little Ballers competitions have been renamed Rising Suns. The main reason for this is to reinforce that this is not a competition but a league where team and players can learn the rules of basketball and get used to game situations.

Rising Suns games run under a set of modified rules which are slightly different for each of the three levels. They are designed to get players used to rules such as travelling, double dribble etc. The games are “officiated” by referees/development coaches in a way where play will be halted when a player violates one of the rules. In most of these cases however, the referee/coach will explain the rule to the player and give them back the ball at the sideline.

A copy of the modified rules for the Rising Suns development league can be found here. As a guide, Level 1 is suggested for players around the age of 9 and under, Level 2 is for players aged 9-10 and Level 3 is for players around the ages of 9-10. Players who are 11 or slightly older are able to play in the Rising Suns league provided that they are still learning the game.

Junior Registration Day – Sunday 9 February 2020

We will be hosting a junior registration day for all junior players/teams/clubs on Sunday 9 February 2020. The day will be open to all players looking for a team to join and teams looking for players. It will also provide an opportunity for teams/clubs who to get their players registered in the SportsTG system with the help from KDBA staff.

We will also have information available on the day on how to setup teams, how to organise new team uniforms and other general information that teams may need for the season.

More information for the day will be posted as details are confirmed with the information to be posted on our website and on our Facebook page (@kalamunda.basketball) and Instagram feed (@kalamunda.basketball).

Late Nominations

Teams who nominate after the nomination closing date (seniors – 15 January 2020; juniors – 9 February 2020) will not be put into competition until round 5. Teams nominating late will also need to pay the full nomination/registration fee of $352.50 prior to being put into competition.

Finals Series

In addition to the normal finals involving the top 4 teams, we will be running placing finals this season. This means that all teams will be involved in the finals series. The final placings of teams may be used in Season 2 for determining correct competitions/divisions for teams.

KDBA Basketball Fill Ins & Prospective Players

Did you know that KDBA has a Facebook Group for fill ins and prospective players? The group is used as a way to connect teams looking for players and players looking for teams to play in KDBA competitions. Players may be looking to either fill in, join a team permanently or find enough players to start their own team.

The group can be at bit.ly/LOOKING2PLAY
