Brisbane Capitals: The Wesley Lady Capitals Strive for Post Season Success

Brisbane, QLD. – The Wesley Lady Capitals secured their second consecutive post season berth under head coach Bec Dudic, finishing 7th in the Women's QBL. This is the first time the same head coach has led the Lady Caps to back to back post season apperances since 2001 & 2002, when the team was under the guidance of Bruce Palmer and went on to win back to back State Championships. In Coach Dudic's first season with the Lady Caps, she steered the team to the Final Four, and this season Coach Dudic and her charges are striving for post season success again. Along the way, the Lady Caps travel down the highway this Sunday afternoon to take on the Logan Thunder in the Quarter Final of the QBL.

The Lady Caps tipoff at 3.00pm at Cornubia Park Sports Centre; Bryants Road, Shailer Park.

THE CAPITALS (7th, 8 – 9; 6 – 2 on the road):

The Wesley Lady Capitals have strived for rhythm the entire season and have come close despite major injuries to key players including Mikaela King and Amy Lewis. However, one area the Lady Caps do perform consistently well has been on the road with a 6 & 2 win/loss record. On the road, their only losses have come by way of minor premiers Southern Districts Spartans (59-70) in Round 5 and Rockhampton Rockets (70-75) in Round 13 on the back of the toughest Road Trip in both the Men and Women’s competition.

Brisbane will welcome the opportunity this Sunday to take on Logan with their full squad led by team captain Amy Lewis, and supported by D’Lesha Lloyd (21.4ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.9apg), Heidi Freeburn (14.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.5apg), Victoria Aldred (7.8ppg, 4.2rpg, 1apg) and Madie Woodford (6.2ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.3apg). The key for the Lady Caps will be there team defence and keeping the Logan Thunders potent offence under 70pts. With five Logan players averaging double figure points, this will be a major focus for The Wesley Lady Capitals.

QUARTER FINAL v LOGAN THUNDER (14 – 3; 8 – 1 at home):

The Lady Caps last met the Thunder in Round 8 of the QBL. This was the fifth time these teams have met since 2012. Although our Lady Caps look strong on the road, the Logan Thunder have steadily established a strong home court record this season of 8 & 1 which will make for a competitive and hotly contested Quarter Final match up between these two teams.

Last Meeting: The Lady Caps fell, 52 – 73 in Round 8 of 2017 at NAB Stadium.

Notables: The Thunder’s field goal efficiency of 37.1% (3pt - 33%, and 2pt – 38%) to the Lady Caps 27.5% (3pt – 11%, and 2pt – 30%) was the difference with all other statistical categories hard to split.

Last outing, Lady Caps team captain Amy Lewis (16.6ppg, 5.8rpg, 2.8apg, 2.5spg) did not play due to injury.

D’Lesha Lloyd led all scorers for Brisbane with 13pts to go along with her 9rbs, 3asts and 4stls.

Madie Woodford and Heidi Freeburn combined for 15pts, 8rbs, 2asts and 5stls.
