Brisbane Capitals: Hudor Men's Capitals Secure 2017 QBL Minor Premiership

Brisbane, QLD. – The Hudor Brisbane Men’s Capitals take on eighth place Central Queensland power house, Rockhampton Rockets, this Saturday night at a special family time of 7.30pm in the 2017 QBL Playoffs – Quarterfinal.

 

The Men’s Capitals tip off at 7.30pm at NAB Stadium.

THE CAPITALS (1st, 14 – 3; 8 – 1 at home)

After 150+ Men’s games, the 2017 QBL regular season has come to an end with your Brisbane Hudor Men’s Capitals taking out the minor premiership.

 

Round 15 of the QBL, saw your Caps play a double header at home against the then placed USC Rip City (4th, 11-5) and Townsville Heat (3rd, 12-4). Brisbane went on to secure back to back wins defeating the Rip 97-91 without team captain, Zac Carter (14ppg and 5.3rpg) and then backing up against the Heat to secure the minor premiership with an impressive 109-102 victory.

 

QUARTER FINALS v ROCKHAMPTON ROCKETS (8th, 8 – 9; 3 – 6 on the road)

The Rockets head into this weekend’s Quarterfinal matchup against Brisbane with an element of confidence as they defeated the Caps (82-93) on the back end of the Caps Round 13 road double header. Although Brisbane were without dynamic playmaker Aaron Anderson (21.4ppg, 4.6apg, 4.4rpg) Rockhampton will fancy their chances in this 1st v 8th playoff game.

 

Series Record: Caps lead 3 – 4 (2 – 1 at home) since 2012.

Last Meeting: The Caps fell short 82 – 93 on July 22nd in Round 13 on the road at Hegvold Stadium.

In The Playoffs: This game marks just the second time Brisbane has met Rockhampton in the Playoffs since 2012. Their first meeting was the 2013 Grand Final in Rockhampton. This was the last of the single Grand Final series formats and Brisbane fell in a close 95-102 contest. Since then, the series has been tied with 2 wins apiece and the winner of this Saturdays game advancing to the Semi-Finals.

Notables: During the Round 13 contest, R. Hassan (25pts, 15rbs), D. Wagner (14pts, 10rbs) and J. Mitchell (11pts, 10rbs) all recorded double doubles.

Rockhampton dominated the rebound contest recording 49rbs to Brisbane’s 30, including 15-5 offensive rebounds leading to an 18pts – 7pts advantage for second chance baskets.

Christian Lam’s 15pts from the bench was his highest score of the season.

Dusty Rychart registered his 5th double-double of the season against the Rockets with a 23pt, 12rb hall that included 2asts and 4stls.
