WNBL Star Emma Randall joins Capitals

The QBL Brisbane Capitals Women’s Program has gone one step further to finalising its team, with the signing of Emma Randall for the 2012 season. The signing of the former Opals squad member and current WNBL BDS Logan Thunder star means that Brisbane have added a very capable and dominating force to their front court.

Listed at 6 foot 2 inches or 188 centimetres, Randall poses a deadly post game having played in the WNBL for Logan, Bulleen Boomers, Dandenong Rangers and Sydney Uni Flames. She has also done stints in France and Russia and was part of the 2005 WNBL Champion Dandenong Rangers.

Her ability is not limited to the post and banging bodies, as we saw this year in the WNBL with the Thunder, as she found herself quite often on the perimeter beating players with her length, mobility and ability to knock down the open jump shot. Whilst the Thunder only just narrowly missed the finals this year she is keen to make her mark in her debut season in the QBL.

With the QBL continuing to sign some big WNBL stars, this is by far one of the biggest and it’s safe to say Emma Randall will have a big impact. Randall feels her experience from the WNBL and overseas will allow her to help the younger Capitals “I just want to go out there and lead by example, keep things simple and lead by example and if they have any questions along the way I will help them out”.

Randall, who is also a full-time mother, said the transition from the hectic SEABL schedule of 26 games to the QBL 16 game schedule was one of the major reasons for her signing and it will allow her more opportunities to work on her game during the WNBL off-season. Her signing with the club will add to the Brisbane Capitals Community Development Program and will inspire some of the best junior basketball players in Queensland to achieve greater things.

Randall will seek guidance from her BDS Logan Thunder teammate Kristen Veal and she has no doubts it will help her game “Kristen is excited about this year, as am I, she has a huge amount of experience and when she first spoke to me about the culture and program at Brisbane, I was keen to sign”.

One thing is definite; the QBL Brisbane Capitals Program is going from strength to strength and continues to set the standard for our future Capitals. The home of Basketball in Queensland will have another Star in its midst, so Caps fans get down to NAB Stadium to watch Emma and the rest of the girls this year in the QBL.
