President's Update May 19th 2012

Reminders this week of events scheduled in the EDJBA calendar.

Referees Forum

Jo Chu has advised clubs of this important date in the calendar.  The association has recruited three of the most experienced referees to assist in the conduct of the forum.  Steve Chadd, Lexie Lattanzio and Anthony O’Brien have volunteered their services to be part of a panel to assist with discussion and to offer expert advice from a referee’s perspective.

We are pleased and honoured that people of this calibre have offered to be part of this very important milestone in the EDJBA’s development.  One of the important aims of the EDJBA committee upon taking control was to be more transparent in its activities.  Another of the aims of the committee was to call on experts to assist in the improvement of processes and operations of the association.

This forum and the standing of the panel represents an important step forward in one of the most significant aspects of the association’s operations. It is hoped that a more uniform and higher standard of officiating will be one of the outcomes of the forum.

The date for the forum is set for Monday 4th June.

As Jo has said and I remind you:

  1. “We are aiming for a shared understanding and a shared vision and
  2. If you are presenting a problem, make sure you are presenting a solution.”

This forum is one of two we are conducting this year with a view to improving the association’s operations.

Big Fixtures Day

A reminder that the Big Fixtures Day will be held at Beverley Hills Primary School, with the date being Sunday the 3rd of June 2012.

This is sometimes considered a tedious day and process but on the other hand can also be seen as an important day for representatives to exchange views on many of the issues confronting clubs, both from an association point of view and an internal aspect of a club’s operations.

It is a good opportunity for people to share ideas and exchange points of view.

I urge you to get as many people to attend from your club not only to lighten the load but to expose as many as possible to the wider aspects of the association.

Special General Meeting

The date has been set for this very important meeting where it is hoped the new constitution will be adopted.  Monday 18th June is the date and I urge all clubs to get their full quota of representatives along.  All observers will be welcome and encouraged to join in the debate.

Grading Forum

David Bacon and his merry band of helpers on the two grading committees have set the date for the Grading Forum.  The 23rd July should see some spirited discussion in regard to processes and systems that are in operation now or will be proposed.

If you are interested in the grading process and think you have something to offer please mark this date down in your diary.  Grading is such a pivotal part of our operation and this forum should be of prime concern.

Records

Once again we have broken all records for teams entered.  It is extraordinary that the association continues to grow at the rate it does. I will be endeavouring for the next update to have a snapshot of where the growth is occurring so that we can predict our future a little better.

Until next week,

Happy Hoops
