There were some close and exciting games of Basketball played on Tuesday night. With several women players missing due to the Launceston Tornado dinner, some upsets did occur.

The women’s game of the round was between Ulverstone and Penguin. Ulverstone managed to win by only one point in front of a good crowd. Molly Synott was the standout player scoring 17 points. While the Hayward sisters: Maddison and Sharn were Penguin’s better players.

Somerset women managed to scrape a 4 point victory over Wynyard in another close and exciting game. It was only in the last few seconds that Somerset were able to seal the game. Indianna Humphries stepped up in the absence of Sami Phillips, scoring 16 points, Libby Haines played a great game for Wynyard top scoring with 14 points.

Devonport had far too much class over a gallant Smithton team to record a big victory. Chelsea Gleeson and Paige French played well in an even team performance for Devonport.

Burnie maintained their winning form, easily accounting for Latrobe. Rebecca Heald continued her good start to the season, scoring a game high 20 points. Brooke Brown once again played a lone hand for Latrobe, scoring 16 points.

Smithton men defeated Devonport in the best standard game for the round. Both teams shot at a high percentage. Devonport’s Oliver Wilkinson led all scorers with 20 points. BZ Heres played well in scoring 19 points for Smithton, while Brad Hardy and Matt Zerna had a great tussle.

Burnie were way too strong against a disappointing Latrobe. Emmitt Smith had another great game and would be one of the early MVP favourites. Tre Armstrong continued his good form. While Latrobe had to rely on the Triffett brothers; Alex and Jack for their scoring.

Penguin men outplayed a determined Ulverstone team in the second half to record a 9 point victory. Fraser Eaton once again top scored with 28 points. The ever reliable Tyler Kelly and Ryan Cook both played well. For Ulverstone, Mitch Barker has top scored in both of their games and is looking to be one of the players to look out for this season.

In a fast paced, close game, Somerset played well in the last quarter to win by 10 points against Wynyard. Lachy Barker played a solid game scoring 13 points while Liam Jaffray led all scorers with 15 points.
